Announcement:
Broto Fantasy will be closing up shop. We just want to thank everyone for the support through the years. We talk about this decision very transparently in our final episode below (and one final mock).
Thank you all! - Tim, Mike and Jay

Philip took a look at the telemetry for the Australian GP to see if the Alonso penalty was justified. Take a look!
(You can do this too with the {f1dataR} package)
@jjsantoso@ecobici@matplotlib Hola Juan.
2023 Formula One TSOE (Turn Speed Over Expected) in KM/H with Turn Situational Factors
Just want to preface possible lack of accuracy (you cannot directly associate turns with telemetry data)
Thanks to @BrotoFFCasanova and @pbulsink for f1dataR

For our 2024 #BigDataBowl entry, @JavierMoG97 and I utilized a space control and quality approach to evaluate tackling.
By taking a player's influence area as a bivariate normal (as proposed by @JaviOnData and @LukeBornn), we can compute a team's control on the field.
This allows us to take speed, angle, blockers, etc. into account (indirectly) when comparing potential tacklers' control vs the ballcarrier's influence.
Going beyond just absolute distance to the ballcarrier, for example.
We define the quality of control as the convolution between the defender's pitch control and the ballcarrier's influence.
Then it's just a matter of converting this number into a probability of tackle to evaluate the tackling performance relative to quality of positioning.

I have finally entered a submission into the big data bowl!
Come check it out if you like that sort of thing

I am giving away a free copy of my book (and a handful of hex stickers) for #NewYearsEve.
Retweet this (and follow me) for your chance to enter.
I will use @TWPicker on January 2 to select the winner and drop it in the mail that afternoon.
