there's a military coup occurring in myanmar because of military opposition to the results of a recent election. the election was claimed as a fraud and they forcefully replaced democratic leader aung san suu kyi with min aung hlaing. myanmar is in a crucial state of emergency.

the term 'asian american' was coined in 1968 in solidarity with the era's black power movement. this black history month, we asians have to stand together and support black creators who are making an effort to teach us what we didn't learn in school.

when referring to someone as asian, many people assume it to be east asian (chinese, japanese, korean) when in reality asia is much more than just east asia. next time, remember to also consider those from west asia, central asia, south asia, south east asia, and the middle east.

recently, jojo siwa came out as queer (congrats!). this is extremely impactful as it normalizes coming out at a young age & is supportive of queer youth. we need to normalize coming out young & stop being dismissive with comments such as “they’re too young to know how they feel”.

criminalizing marijuana has played a part in racial discrimination in the country, with black people being affected the most by it. texas has the most restrictive laws on medical marijuana in the u.s., but we have the chance to help legalize it in 2021. do your part and advocate.

stop whitewashing dr. martin luther king jr. he had radical beliefs about blm and white supremacy and was not always a passive person. he didn’t always have peaceful and “nice” beliefs and this should be recognized.

we need to normalize not fetishizing men in skirts. just because they wear a piece of feminine clothing, does not mean people can go around s*xualizing them for it.

recently, the chinese government made a tweet defending the decision to forcefully sterilize uighur women, clearly a vile infringement of their rights. these sterilizations are intended to erase the muslim population in china through genocide and we must act now.
