One thing I don't want PMs to miss:
Even Admin Mode has value.
Some of the best lessons I've learned came from coordinating schedules, chasing dependencies, documenting decisions, and sitting through countless stakeholder conversations.
Just like we've all learned from both good and bad managers, we can learn from admin mode, too.
Admin mode reveals a lot about how orgs really function.
It exposes communication breakdowns.
It reveals where decisions stall.
It shows you who influences outcomes.
Escaping Admin Mode isn't about becoming better at administrative project work.
It's about becoming better at leadership, business, judgment, influence, and delivery.
What's one book that changed the way you lead?
You can't read your way out of Admin Mode.
But the right books can change how you think.
If your goal is to become the PM people trust to lead delivery, don't just read project management books.
Project Managers...
Ever feel responsible for everything but in control of nothing?
That’s the Authority Gap.
Most PMs try to fix it with better tracking.
It's not a productivity problem.
It’s a positioning problem.
The shift:
Move from Admin Mode → Delivery Leadership.
Project Managers weren’t hired to be coordinators.
But many were positioned that way.
Here’s what’s happening:
1/ PMs are accountable for outcomes
2/ But rarely given decision authority
3/ So they control what they can
4/ Which becomes admin work
Because you’re boxed into visibility at the task layer.
The shift?
Stop optimizing task tracking. Start optimizing value clarity.
Your calendar communicates your level.
If it only signals coordination, that’s how you’ll be treated.
Unpopular opinion:
The biggest threat to project managers isn’t AI.
It’s being seen as replaceable.
If you’re stuck updating trackers & chasing status,
you’re in admin mode—
not leading projects.
Where do PMs get stuck most—admin or leadership?
Project Management in 30 seconds:
Set a clear goal
Get the right people
Make a simple plan
Communicate often
Adapt fast
Deliver real value
That’s it.
That’s the job.
Everything else is noise.

Your title says Project Manager but are you just an admin with extra steps?
If you spend your day chasing updates, herding reports & sitting in endless meetings…
You're managing tasks, not projects.
✅ PMs drive strategy
✅ PMs influence outcomes
✅ PMs lead teams to impact
But too many get stuck in the admin trap—mistaking motion for progress.
Ask yourself:
🔹 Are you setting the vision or just tracking deadlines?
🔹 Are you leading conversations or just taking notes?
🔹 Are you solving problems or just forwarding emails?
