Use exhaust fans sparingly to avoid pulling extra warm air out of your home.
Open curtains on south-facing windows during the day to allow natural sunlight to heat your home.
Keep the fireplace damper closed unless a fire is burning.
Set your water heater’s temp to 120° F. 6/6
Turn off and unplug appliances when not in use.
Switch ceiling fan direction to clockwise to shift warm air down into the room.
Turn off ceiling fans when not in that room.
Keep your garage door closed to buffer colder outdoor air from trickling into your home. 5/6
There are several ways customers can help:
Delay the use of heavy power using appliances like washing machines, clothes dryers and dishwashers.
Adjust your thermostat to 68 degrees or lower and bundle up in a cozy sweater, warm socks or a blanket. 4/6
NES customers will be experience rotating, intermittent power outages in roughly 10-minute increments every 1.5 – 2 hours. This is expected to last until the power load is stabilized. 3/6
TVA has directed all utility power distributors in the Tennessee Valley to drop 5% of its electricity load immediately. For the NES service area, which includes Davidson County and surrounding counties in Middle Tennessee, power curtailment has already begun. 2/6
Last night’s cold front that brought extreme frigid temperatures to Middle Tennessee has caused a strain on the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) power generation facilities. 1/6
