🇺🇸🇨🇳 A mayor was Beijing's quiet inside hire

Eileen Wang, until recently the mayor of Arcadia, California, just pleaded guilty to acting as an illegal agent of China. She's looking at up to 10 years.

From late 2020 through 2022, Wang and her then-fiancé Mike Sun ran a website dressed up as local news for the Chinese American community, while quietly pushing Beijing's talking points on orders from PRC officials.

Then it went further. Sun, on China's direction, built a team to get Wang onto the city council in 2022, basically growing their own candidate from scratch.

The tell is her own message to a contact, "This is what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants to send." Hard to spin that.

Sun's already serving four years. Wang resigned the day charges surfaced, and now the plea makes it official, a U.S. mayor was working for a foreign government.
