It was my pleasure to join Health Minister @BruceFitchMLA and colleagues this morning for the @NBHRF Healthy Aging presentations and panel, moderated by CEO Damon Goodwin.

This is one of the key pillars of our health plan, with 22.5% of our population over 65. That’s why we’ve expanded Nursing Homes Without Walls to 20 locations, with 10 more on the way.

I want to thank ResearchNB and presenters for their support of innovative work, right here at home in New Brunswick. This research helps our government improve quality of life and delivery of care to seniors across the province.

J’ai eu le plaisir, ce matin, d’assister en compagnie du ministre de la Santé, Bruce Fitch, et d’autres collègues à des présentations et des discussions sur le vieillissement en santé de RechercheNB, animées par Damon Goodwin, président-directeur général.

Il s'agit d'un des principaux piliers de notre plan de la santé, puisque 22,5 % de notre population a plus de 65 ans. C'est la raison pour laquelle nous avons élargi nos Foyers de soins sans murs à 20 sites, et 10 autres sont en cours de réalisation.

Je tiens à remercier RechercheNB et les présentateurs pour leur soutien à des travaux novateurs, ici même au Nouveau-Brunswick. De fait, cette recherche aide notre gouvernement à améliorer la qualité de vie et la prestation des soins aux personnes âgées dans toute la province.

Launched on May 1, 2023, this groundbreaking initiative allows physicians to practice in all four Atlantic provinces without having to register in each. The registry replaces a cumbersome by-province temporary licence regime that charged average registration fees of approximately $2,000 per year, with a one-stop streamlined structure that charges a nominal $500.00 annual fee. This transformative approach makes healthcare more financially viable for practitioners and enhances the accessibility and quality of care for residents across the Atlantic provinces.”

« Les provinces de l’Atlantique ont reçu le prix Ciseaux d’or pour le lancement du Registre des médecins de l’Atlantique le 1er mai 2023. Les médecins inscrits à ce registre sans précédent peuvent exercer dans n’importe quelle des quatre provinces de l’Atlantique. La cotisation annuelle de 500 $ associée au Registre remplace le système précédent, qui exigeait des frais de suppléance ou de permis temporaire de 2 000 $ en moyenne pour chacune des provinces. I’m proud our government is supporting the Food Depot Alimentaire in Moncton to help serve New Brunswickers in need.

To continue the support the Department of Health has provided in past years, we have committed $2 million to assist with purchasing healthy food for distribution to 65 food banks and community kitchens across the province.
