Flood forecasting and situational awareness during a flood event are made possible by real-time river height and flow data, but one of the biggest challenges that emergency managers face is that gauges may go offline or report erroneously, leaving emergency managers without a reliable source of data. At FloodMapp, we use machine learning for operational data cleaning and reconstruction to overcome these data quality issues and help put more accurate real-time data in the hands of emergency managers.
The @USGAO published a report at the end of 2023 on Artificial Intelligence in Natural Hazard Modeling: Severe Storms, Hurricanes, Floods, and Wildfires, identifying several potential benefits of applying machine learning to this field. These benefits include reduced time for forecasting and warning, increased model accuracy, and reduced uncertainty of model output.

What is #PostCast?
PostCast answers the question: "What was the maximum extent of the flood and what was impacted?" up to 30 days after the peak of the event.

Thank you to our partners at @QldFES who gave the @QldGovernor a run through @FloodMapp's products and capabilities as we work together through the summer storm and cyclone season.
The EMSINA AFAC Conference for 2022 has come to an end. We would like to thank all delegates who visited the EMSINA Booth or participated in the EMSINA PDP today. We would also like to thank @AFACnews@esriaustralia@FloodMapp@firemapper_app
Flooding is again looking like it might dominant the landscape this Spring and Summer. EMSINA will have 3 capabilities in the Booth to help EM staff create and make informed decisions upon flood boundaries.

In the Australian 2022 floods, @FloodMapp delivered real-time operational flood intelligence for emergency managers before, during & after flood events; working with governments & critical infrastructure owners to improve safety, prevent damage and fast-track response & recovery.
Nicole says that a critical element of achieving the theme of #DEMC22 is the power of a Common Operating Picture:
A COP has to deliver
• Continuous situational awareness
• Rapid understanding
• Evidence for decision support
• Planning & coordination for the delivery of action
