Look to the west to see the sparkling planet Venus and below it, a little dimmer is Jupiter. Both are in the constellation Pisces the fish. Really nice.

Good looking sky right now. From left to right or east to west there is Mars, a waxing gibbous Moon and Jupiter. Follow the moon the next couple of nights as it gets closer to Mars and then blocks it - an Occultation of Mars on 12-7.

Beautiful Full Hunter’s Moon rising in the east. Jupiter, the King of the planets shining brightly to the right of the moon. The moon is in the constellation Pisces the fish. Clear and crisp night to view the sky. I respect that.

@NewRo_FB Great pic of waning gibbous moon. No, a blood moon occurs during a lunar eclipse. This is because of the scattering of light and filtering out of shorter wavelengths of light. Similar to a beautiful sunrise or sunset. Quiz tomorrow.

It is always a thrill for teachers when former students return to say hello. NRPD PO A. Sabatino, NRHS class of 2013 stopped in today for a quick refresher course on moon phases and of course to say hello. It was a real pleasure.

Tomorrow’s assignment: Conjunction ( when 2 objects appear close together) between the Red planet Mars and a waning crescent moon in the SE sky around 4:15 am. Jupiter will be to the right of them and Saturn will be to the right of Jupiter.
