A deep dive ✍️

It was 10 years ago Valve created Battlepass in Dota2: quickly it became the most welcomed model in gaming industry wide.

Battlepasses introduced a subscription with a path of least resistance for gamers. Often paid as a monthly fee, it boosted revenues while also increasing player retention.

Battlepasses include:
•Cosmetic items (skins, outfits)
•Hard and soft currency
•Boosts
•Loot boxes
•Characters 
•Access to new in-game stuff
and gamers just love it.

Diablo Immortal amassed $120 million in just 3 months after release with a free to play model. How?

By introducing a battlepass.

Fortnite and some other AAA titles made billions while creating user retention for years.

In web3gaming the standard has been the free mint free token airdrop model the last few months.

Pretty much serving mostly to speculation, instead of fostering user adoption and retention.

It came with its problems that we are seeing now.

In reality, we don't have to reinvent the wheel so much.

What if web3games distribute Battlepass WLs, whereby playing the game and unlocking levels earns you NFT skins, items and the game token?

This will create the real adoption and retention most web3games need.

Because the games that will be hugely successful needs the metrics and gamers.

The insane ROIs will be a byproduct of that true foundation.

When comparing with the Play to Airdrop meta, Battlepass model is more long term, and retention inducing.

Because it's not a one time event. It is known for creating habits while rewarding players since a decade.

It is also something gamers outside of web3 can instantly understand.

So it is marketable outside of web3 too.

Also, battlepasses don't need to be as limited in supply, because its goal is not just to create a speculative floor price.

So it is more inclusive, welcoming, and solves many problems that come with low supply meta.

The reward is gathered through in-game, while knowing exactly what you are getting with each level.

So it's transparent.

I will write on Battlepass WLs and how to apply them in web3 more in the upcoming days and weeks, as well as start to apply it with most Seedify incubations.

It's time to change the game;
