I really hate the “no person who works a full-time job should live in poverty” discourse. It should simply be that nobody deserves to live in poverty. We have to let go of the idea that we work in exchange for our worth. People are innately worthy and deserving of the basics.
i think “trans” is at least a dozen distinct phenomena in a trenchcoat and any attempt to coherently define it as one thing will inevitably fail. i don’t just mean the different ways it outwardly manifests, ime you can get the same plant sometimes from different seeds so to speak
Pope Leo says, “The speed and ease with which answers or summaries can be obtained risk extinguishing the desire to ask questions.” Almost alone among public leaders, he recognises that AI threatens to abolish curiosity, making human beings more like machines.
They don't tell you how repairing your own broken stuff makes that stuff feel way more intimately yours than buying a replacement for the broken thing.
I thought it was actually pretty profound when Macklemore said this, and a good map for celebs. You gotta insist on your ability to learn things and to take responsibility for knowing them.
@BenjaminMuses it is true. how are cats widely considered stylish while being literally covered in cat hair, but humans are not stylish if they have a little bit of a cat hair? think about it.
Happy Pride Month. If you're a gay man, please remember your power. People often think that gay men are innately fashionable, which means if you wear some stupid shit for long enough, straight people, including homophobes, will copy you and then you can laugh at them.
"Anna did not respond to any of the three complaints. Anna has never responded to any complaint. Anna is a name on a blog and a public key on a server and a person, or maybe several people, in a jurisdiction nobody has identified after four years of searching."

assisted suicide is one of those things where i very strongly agree in theory but in practice seeing people be told “well no we won’t cover this treatment for your disease but you CAN kill yourself” is absolutely fucking heinous
"Anarchists often note that there is a difference between protest and direct action:
Protest is an appeal to the authorities to behave differently; direct action, whether it’s a matter of a community building a well, trying to shut down a meeting, or occupying a factory, it is a matter of acting as if the existing structure of power does not even exist.
Direct action is, ultimately, the defiant insistence on acting as if one is already free."
