Another little secret: a lot of what most “developer influencers” say is fairly aspirational.
Their own companies don’t necessarily do things as smoothly as they preach to others.
This is especially true at larger companies where the culture might vary vastly between orgs/teams
And I’m not trying to shit in people who are oblivious to how the Internet works. My fascination with this is that something so essential has so little understanding in the general population and it doesn’t appear to be treated as a major issue.
Imagine if nobody understood how something essential like cars work. They could see the 4 round things under the car, but had no idea how wheels make the car move. This is how most people view the internet, just something that works. It blows my mind that they dare to rely on it.
I finally got some use for my RTL2838 usb radio dongle when I tried my hand at getting the data from my smart water meter into @home_assistant
Pretty simple and a lot of fun so I wrote 4 minutes worth of words about it https://t.co/fHHNhDlqDy
@apiari Hei, there’s actually a segment for that already! :) https://t.co/rZ2AQycjKy
I’ve never used that segment myself but as long as $CONDA_DEFAULT_ENV is set in your shell that should do the trick.
It seems I'm on a writing spree of tiny (>5min) blog posts, so I wrote about how I'm using custom hardware like the Google Coral for machine learning in my #homelab#kubernetes cluster. https://t.co/slnyHZ6OE2
I started creating a diagram of my #homelab and ended up writing a short blogpost about it. Could be interesting if you’re into that sort of thing :)

`echo MySecretPwd | base64` this simple oneliner had me cursing the clouds for hours until I realized that the echo adds a newline and thus my newly created #k8s secret isn’t “MySecretPwd” but rather “MySecretPwd\n”. Friendship ended with echo, printf is my new best friend.

Refrigerators making a noise when you leave the door open is a great example of a product where someone went “hey we need more features” without trying to solve a problem. How about you close the door instead?
