🚨❌ Alex Scott and his camp informed Bournemouth about decision to turn down second proposal over new deal.
Bournemouth insist to keep the player and open to include a release clause into new contract but no agreement yet.
Premier League top clubs, attentive. 👀
For a number of reasons, I’d HIGHLY encourage MUFC to be signing Garner back.
As a player he makes a ton of sense. Versatile cm that is a workhorse. Covers ground, good on the ball, solid defensively, had a 63% aerial win rate (2nd in league overall), solid in forward passing and crossing, proper age (25) and so much more.
From a logistics stance, bringing back a club trained player for UEFA and PL requirements would be quite useful as well, especially with considerations to selling players like Rashford and Heaton going to retire eventually and heaven being b list eligible in Jan/feb.
On a financial side, yes it would be expensive because he signed a new deal, but we maintain a sell on clause that basically makes an £80m price something around £65m-70m. Better than or comparable to many of the alternatives cost wise (ie Baleba, Scott, Bouaddi, etc or weighed against Mateus and Tonali)
Been advocating for the move all season basically. He’s earned it and I’d LOVE to have him and Mainoo together in the pivot representing carrington especially with Bruno, Tiele and santos rounding things out (plus likely Mount still).
Objections like
- “he would’ve been free and now we would be spending how much on him” - Everton held a club triggered extension on his deal, he was never going to be free this summer. Cheaper sure but not free.
- “he wasn’t that good” - look at the data. Watch him play. He passed both tests and you just outed yourself.
Tbf, this could even enable sales for Mount and maz as garner can pick up fb shifts too, and with Tiele, we don’t need Mount as a backup 10 while we also have Cunha and Amad who can offer depth there too. And at rb, Dorgu can also provide coverage to Dalot (who is rarely injured) and I’d like to see us add 1-2 full backs anyways over the next 2 seasons). This could recoup like £40-60m of the garner fee plus a decent amount of wages (around £320-350k probably).
There are so many ways this move makes sense. Would love to see him back in red and working with @carras16 getting the chance he should’ve been given years ago and frankly has earned today.
