“Johnny B. Goode” was originally released by Chuck Berry in 1958 and became one of the foundational anthems of rock and roll. In 1995, Berry performed the classic alongside Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at the inaugural concert celebrating the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. The performance brought together one of rock and roll's founding figures with one of the artists who had been deeply influenced by his music, creating a remarkable meeting between two generations of rock.

The collaboration had an especially meaningful history behind it. More than two decades earlier, in 1973, a young Springsteen and his band had actually served as Berry's backing band at a concert at the University of Maryland's Cole Field House in College Park. Berry arrived without a rehearsal or soundcheck, leaving Springsteen and the band to improvise their way through a set of Berry classics. The 1995 performance therefore brought the two artists together again on a much larger stage, with Springsteen returning to the role of backing musician for one of his most important rock and roll influences.

Hace 52 años, el 19 de septiembre de 1974, las estrellas de Fania abordaron en Nueva York un Boeing 707 rumbo a África para participar en el histórico festival Zaire 74, en Kinshasa. Antes de embarcar, los músicos asistieron a una recepción en el Grand Ballroom del Holiday Inn, contiguo al aeropuerto John F. Kennedy, junto a otras estrellas que realizarían el viaje. Se trataba de un vuelo chárter de larga distancia, con una gran cantidad de pasajeros, equipaje e instrumentos, que tras cruzar el Atlántico hizo escala en Madrid antes de continuar hacia Kinshasa.

Después de más de 13 horas a bordo, el avión se convirtió en una fiesta. Aquí te dejo este archivo histórico, perteneciente al documental ‘Soul Power’, en el que se puede ver a las estrellas de Fania, lideradas por Celia Cruz, junto a otros músicos, improvisando una descarga en pleno vuelo rumbo a uno de los encuentros musicales más extraordinarios de la época.
