Can’t recommend BRUTAL SEASON enough. A tight, claustrophobic neo-noir about a family that reaches the boiling point one hot summer in 1940s Brooklyn when their estranged son returns home. Feels like a great lost Playhouse 90. It’s rentable on Amazon and YouTube.
Day 17: #NoirvemberChallenge
Favorite ensemble -
Sweet Smell of Success (1957). Lancaster & Curtis both at their best. Legend has it Orson Wells was the first choice for JJ Hunsecker - hard to imagine anyone else after Burt’s knockout performance.

Day 15: #NoirvemberChallenge
Favorite Dana Andrews Noir -
Laura (1944) is too excellent to go unchosen, even if it’s the obvious choice. Andrews delivers a perfect performance.

Day 13: #NoirvemberChallenge
Noir where the location is a character - Brutal Season (2023)
Set in a single location, the family kitchen is as much a character as any of its inhabitants
Set design by the incredible Dex Edwards

Day 10: #NoirvemberChallenge
Favorite film noir cinematographer - got to give this one to the incomparable Stanley Cortez.
The Night of the Hunter, The Naked Kiss, Shock Corridor, The Magnificent Ambersons. A legend.

Day 9: #NoirvemberChallenge
Favorite film noir with “big” in the title
The Big Heat (1953) - the pacing & tension, Glenn Ford’s performance, the infamous burn - a true gem.

This #Noirvember, might we throw our hat in the ring?
“In 1948, the Trouths face no income and the hottest summer on record. When their estranged son returns, the apartment is full again - but is it big enough for the gambling, trauma, and debts that come in his wake?”
🚨We genuinely couldn’t be more excited to share that Brutal Season is being distributed by @1091pictures and will be released on October 10th! Get ready to stream us over & over again on Amazon, Vudu, iTunes, Google Play, Xbox and more 🚨

I had a fantastic time covering @chattfilmfest. You can see by the star ratings that I liked some of these better than others, but they all hold some merit in one way or another. It's safe to say that the Tennessee film community is in good hands. https://t.co/qfr8itcUM1
