FATAL SINGLE-VEHICLE CRASH AT SOWETO HIGHWAY / N17 INTERCHANGE (ORLANDO, SOWETO)

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) expresses its deepest condolences following a tragic single-vehicle accident that occurred earlier this morning at the interchange of the Soweto Highway and the N17 in Orlando, Soweto.

A Peugeot carrying four occupants lost control, crashed, and rolled over the embankment connecting the Soweto Highway and the N17.

JMPD Officers alongside Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded promptly to the scene. Regrettably, three male occupants sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased on the scene by emergency medical personnel. One occupant sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.

The exact cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed. A case of culpable homicide will be opened at the Orlando South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.
While lanes remain open, traffic is slowing down due to the presence of onlookers and emergency and law enforcement vehicles on-site.

Motorists are urged to keep their focus on the road and exercise caution to ensure the safety of emergency personnel working near the embankment.
