In Erbil, Kurdistanis held a protest in solidarity with Rojava amid recent Syrian government advances into Kurdish-held areas.
Dozens of participants braided each other’s hair, symbolizing strength, courage, honor, and dignity, in response to a video showing a Syrian Arab Army soldier cutting a Kurdish fighter’s braid in Raqqa.
Thirty-year-old protester Darin Masoum, whose family is in Rojava, said the act expresses resilience and unity among Kurdish communities.
