They say a picture speaks a thousand words. This one could speak more. Thank you Ryan Roberts & other photographers for that moment.
As a promoter and lifelong race fan, I truly don’t care who wins a race as long as it’s a safe one. That’s all I care about. One of the most favorite things I get to do is go to victory circle every night. I learned that from Ray Cook. It’s truly amazing what I’ve seen there. The first win. The emotions. The energy. The excitement and even the disappointment from a podium finisher.
Last night, I saw what I looked like was closure to a lot of people that truly cared for and will miss a wonderful friend to the sport, Jeff Gullett.
When I saw that hauler roll in the pits yesterday while going to get my armband and Jeff wasn’t in the front row of the hauler, I truly lost it. I was talking to Jameson briefly on the front stretch in his car before the feature sharing a moment of condolences, I told him to win this race for Gullett. I think we both shed a few tears. Jameson came from 10th place and won the race. I had no idea that by lap 23 he would take the lead and win this thing. I don’t know that anyone would have scripted this race any better than that for the Rattliff team that wanted to honor Jeff like that, just days after he passed.
Sometimes we don’t realize how important and how special people are to such a big group of people and Jeff was definitely one of those.
Saturday nights feature felt like a fairy tale. Could you tell me a time when God showed up? I don’t know for sure and I don’t feel like he was against anyone in the race but I could sure feel like he was pulling for Jameson at Lawrenceburg. The victory circle celebration was filled with tears and so many emotions I can’t describe.
Michael Despain: I don’t know how you were able to call that race and to do that victory lane interview but you did. I know that meant so much to you too as a lifelong friend to Jeff.
Saturdays race, regardless of anything else that went on that night, will go down in epic fashion to me as one of the most memorable moments of my career. It was a whirlwind of emotions for many people including myself.
I know Jeff was smiling down from Heaven in that 40-lapper last night.
These are the Jason Aldean lyrics liberals are saying are racist:
Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk,
Carjack an old lady at a red light.
Pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store.
Ya think it’s cool, well, act a fool if ya like.
Cuss out a cop, spit in his face.
Stomp on the flag and light it up.
Yeah, ya think you’re tough.
Try that in a small town
Somebody point me to the racism.
