The problem with these types of proposals is that politicians have tricked people into believing that these taxes are for the rich.

But in actuality they are meant to KEEP OTHER PEOPLE from becoming rich.

If you already have money, there are plenty of tactics that can be used to avoid paying most income and capital gains taxation.

I recommend everyone do the following exercise to understand what these types of taxes are really about.

Take a salary that you think it will get you to a level where "you made it."

Then subtract your health insurance, and other pre-tax deductions.

Then apply the federal income tax rate to that salary.

Then apply your state income tax rate to that salary (for those suckers who pay a state income tax and gain no material benefit from it compared to other states with no income tax).

Then subtract your property tax from it. "haha bozo, I am a renter and don't pay property tax." -- yes you do. You are paying it in your rent. So go look up what that tax rate is.

Then estimate your annual spending ,and add your sales tax or VAT tax to it.

How much money did you pay in taxes?

Then think about this. You paid all those taxes and you have some money left over.

Let's say $10k left.

So you invest that $10k and make a 2X on it. So now you have $20k. BUT if you you made over $400k in 2024, so guess what......

Now they want 44.6% of that $10k profit you made. So you really only made just under $5.5k profit.

That sucks.

You know what sucks worse? You bought a memecoin or an NFT with that $20k, and you sold it for $1k. So you lost $19k.

So you get to reduce your income for 2024 by $19k right?
Nope. You get to reduce it by $3k, because.... the government needs your taxes.

They are not taxing the rich. The rich have enough money to avoid tax. They are taxing you so that you can't become rich.

Lesson in there.
