What I’m cheering today:
Flannel sheet season has returned, and with it the offers of deep coziness unlike any other season, slumber swaddled in the warm, soft embrace of refined winter bedding.
What I’m fearing today:
Handwashing Ninja Blender blades. After making a blueberry/kefir smoothie, I could feel the bell tolling for me, for the forthcoming delicate dance of sponging that medieval contraption of offset stainless-steel razors. Band-Aids & Neosporin ready.
November’s full moon today, the Beaver Moon. Oh man, beavers; industrious species… like us, but less drama. Evolutionarily honed, head down, keepin’ busy. No procrastination, doing their best, contentedly building their dam homes, making more beavers, taking no more’n they need.
Mike Carlson, my bestest childhood buddy, would’ve turned 50 today. Observing him I assessed & integrated qualities that’d form MY character. Thru his death, 28 years ago, I’ve lived a fuller life, felt I’d be letting him down otherwise. He’s been with me all along. Cheers Mikey.
Thank you Veterans. Gratitude pools & sloshes in my heart for having been born in a place & time of incredible personal freedom & privilege, having been granted a life of amazing opportunity… delivered via the immense sacrifice and valor of the men & women of our Armed Forces.
Nominee in the category of “Best Thing That Happened to Me in 2024.” I was in Europe with my fam for European Daylight Savings fall back last weekend… and then stateside for ours this weekend. Two extra hours of sleep in a week? I love it, it is SO choice.
and’m disappointed that at forty freakin’ nine I’m only now curious whether it’s just marvelous coincidence that ‘God’ & ‘Devil’ are both a one-letter difference, respectively, from ‘good’ & ‘evil’… or if it’s etymologically accounted for.
Reading about dualism, a doctrine theorizing a universe driven by two distinct & irreducible, opposing elements; mind/body, light/dark, matter/spirit, good/bad, push/pull, creator/destroyer, etc…
October’s full moon is today, the Hunter’s Moon; brightest of 2024, and its glow finds each of us hunting… for purpose & meaning, for balance, for community, for love & acceptance, for truth & for peace, for a hot meal at a fair price. Keep hunting hunters, we’re in it together.
Excited to vote for a woman who works for a brighter American future, rather than a man who serves only his own impulsive & chaotic power lust. I simply believe America’ll be better off as a liberal democracy as opposed to a patriarchal, white-supremacist Christian theocracy.
Excited to vote for a President who’s NOT driven solely by personal greed & personal grudges, by bitterness & bigotry, by megalomania & self-serving, nonsensical conspiracy fantasies and who doesn’t give one hoot about America or Americans… other than our capacity to serve him.
Excited to vote for a serious person working to solve America’s serious problems; someone driven by empathy & decency, who demonstrates values of public service & integrity, who abides by rule of law & ethical standards, and fights for justice & equal opportunity for all of us.
Balance is a sense of ease & calmness experienced at a physical & spiritual level that finds us focused on tasks & decisions based on logic & reason, taking care of ourselves physically & emotionally, and engaging in activities that bring us joy & build strong relationships. Mmm.
Today: Autumnal Equinox.
We seek balance, a psychological state of tranquility & inner peace, harmony with the world around us, and here’s a fine demonstration in nature, in the heavens… for us to witness & ponder. I feel and strive for it, want to gather it in and share it.
Fuck, we are a wildly thoughtful, ingenuitive species. How’re we failing so utterly in figuring out a harmonious, compassionate society? It’s not too late to explore paths of kindness & empathy and better ways to feel good other than solely in relation to our neighbors suffering.
Voyager 1 is about my age, launched in 1977 and still communicating with & being recalibrated by scientists in Pasadena, CA… 15 billion miles out there, in frigid interstellar space, taking readings & measurements, sending data back from beyond the heliosphere.
Moon lovers, tonight: a Super Harvest Moon (with a bitty 8% eclipse at 745p PDT). Sept full moon is called harvest moon & a super moon is when it’s closest to Earth in its 4-wk orbit, appearing bigger & brighter. A fine time for some rooftop lovin’… should the opportunity arise.
Kev’d’ve been 9 today. I sure miss our daily connection, our co-dependence. He needed walks, I needed to walk. I gave him rubbins, he gave me lickins. Needs fulfilled. I used to sing him made-up songs. I still sing to him, in an empty house, with a sad heart. Happy b’day, Little.
Beyond all the fuss & bother is a big sky. Inspiration cheers us up, makes us realize how vast & wonderful our world is; wretchedness humbles us, softens us up and ripens our hearts. Both deserve celebration.
