Another milestone of success for our Underage Academy 🫡

This weekend's Senior teams featured no fewer than ELEVEN Athlone Town Academy players for our Men's and Women's teams.

A special mention to Michaela Hand, Niamh Dundon and Abbie Duffy, who all made their senior debuts against Cork City, and played alongside Kayleigh Shine, Hazel Donegan, Melissa O'Kane and Isabel Ryan. In fact, our Women's team have never played a game without an academy graduate featuring.

On Friday, Zach Lawless and William Smith both made their first Senior starts against UCD, with Adam Nolan also coming on to make his debut, while Andrew Stuart Trainor featured in goals.

It’s a testament to the pathway we’re building that so many of our underage players are progressing through to Senior level.

🚨THREE "Waterford men" sent to prison for false imprisonment, sadistic torture and robbery of SETU student

⚠️TRIGGER WARNING

Elroy Kalu (21) is the only one of the three of age that can legally be named, the other two were minors at the time of the assault. All three pleaded guilty.

Through CCTV & mobile phone footage Gardai were able to piece together the incident and charge all 3 with three counts of robbery, theft, assault causing harm and false imprisonment in Waterford on October 2, 2023.

CCTV footage showed the victim taken from the SETU campus on the Cork Road and brought around Waterford City before travelling to Tramore, while they intimidated him into giving them money from his Credit Union account.

The victim was then taken to Wyse Park, where in a sustained attack, the group beat him, waterboarded him, and forced him to drink urine off the ground.

Over a four hour period they recorded the vicious, dehumanising assault and uploaded it to Snapchat.

That poor victim.

Prison and deportation is too good for scum like this.
