Except neither party actually lets us pick our candidates. Our votes go to the politicians selected to run in our elections. The parties first recruit people who will swear allegiance to the party. Very rare for an outlier to make it through. And if they do make it through their party primaries them at their first opportunity.

@emilyinvc I just intercepted my mother talking to a reverse mortgage company. We pay all her bills and the caregivers', and she was feeling guilty. The rate and the fees were insane. We agreed she would not do this again.
