@AvidCommentator I don't think people are pro or against people immigrating. They are pro or against the level of immigration the government has allowed.
@TMFScottP I agree she has no tools or mandate to fix housing.
The article only exists because the housing issue exists.
The housing issue exists because it's a problem that can only be solved from the top down when unfortunately it is suffered by those at the bottom.
@TMFScottP The article about her is purely because of the optics. That's just what happens when you take the job that pays the big bucks.
If she doesn't want to make any effort that's fine too. No one else is doing anything about the housing crisis, why should she.
@TMFScottP She is free to do whatever she wants with her money.
That she decided now is the best time to invest in a holiday home says a lot about how much she actually cares about the average Australians struggle with housing affordablility.
@TMFScottP Is it really too much to ask for leadership by example?
I'm in favour of more reporting on any outcome that exposes where anyone in a position of power could have done better.
And if that's the only consequence for any of their actions then I think they are getting off easy.
@TMFScottP She JUST told everyone one to brace for harsher economic conditions.
WHILE purchasing a holiday house at record highs.
It's a harsh take but I believe if you're not part of the solution you are part of the problem and that's why I think it's newsworthy.
@TMFScottP I agree if she bought shares there is no story.
But she bought a holiday house at a time when property value vs mean income is at all time highs.
You can't do that, be the RBA boss and have no news coverage.
The article isn't about policy conversation.
@TMFScottP True, but I think it's only a rage/click bait article because of our current circumstances.
It's hyperbole but imagine Australia was in the middle of a famine and they ran an article about the RBA director wasting food.
Without the famine there is no story.
@TMFScottP It's only ragebait because of how well those of public office are doing while decades of poor government decisions steadily erode the average citizens standard of living.
@TMFScottP I agree it's a cheap story, but who does it benefit if we decide it's bad taste and stop stories on the actions of anyone who is well paid by tax dollar.
@TMFScottP It's directly linked to that holiday house purchase.
If the director of the RBA wasn't getting paid so much that they could make that sort of purchase during these economic times then it wouldn't be newsworthy.
I see the article as commentary, not a personal attack.
