@AsheeshKSi Some of it is the platform; we use Workday which doesn’t allow supplemental uploads. Also connected to interpretation of state employment law by HR departments.
@AsheeshKSi I agree. But the platforms we use for hiring/recruiting and HR often won’t allow this. We used to do cv+letter with a request for more materials; we then realized we were putting too much on our solo staff person who had to request and manage stuff outside the recruiting system.
We have retained our strength as the largest humanities department in the university and expanded opportunities by hiring and promoting faculty (10 promotions and 10 full-time faculty hires). I look forward to supporting the next chair. (3/3)
Today is my last day as department chair. I want to thank my colleagues for the opportunity to serve as their chair for the past six years. I am proud of the work we did together. (1/n)
I am especially proud of how we pulled together amid the challenges of multiple high-level leadership changes, the pandemic, and curriculum reform and implementation. (2/n)
@RezekJoe Tell me the person who wrote that passage is a “basic bitch” not Interested in experiencing without telling me so. Nonsense. Travel should change us. And it does.
@RezekJoe Some form of Faulkner was required high school reading where I grew up (Memphis), and was very surprised when so many folks in New England our age had never read. Reading sound and the fury in 11th grade changed my life in ways.
Hirschfeld’s work, coupled with his support of birth control, abortion law reform, and feminism in general, made him an enemy of the Nazi platforms of traditional gender roles, compulsory motherhood, and the elimination of the Jewish people from Europe. https://t.co/y9wxwVIbBc
@AsheeshKSi Part of me wonders if it’s about art history undergrad classes and an affective reaction. My art history classes were the only classes where I felt humiliated by the TA/instructor and where I felt shamed for not having the cultural capital of other students.
Please help out my colleague who is in the process of collecting data from trans & nonbinary people about cisgender coworker workplace behavior: https://t.co/ZFemFbGxmv
Students are more afraid of getting shot and killed than drag shows or trans folks in bathrooms. Tbh, trans folks in bathrooms would probably be safer. All the bullying we experienced in our K-12 schooling was by cis kids.
@MyOwnVelouria The art gallery of Ontario is an amazing museum that has a deep collection of Canadian artists (that challenges US conceptions of western art) and also showcases, as I remember, a significant amount of indigenous artist’s work.
@blackgaygemini What? Journals are begging people to review, and many of us tenured folks are reviewing at the limit horizons of our fields. I’m shocked that anyone would turn down a reviewer who is an advanced grad student, given the peer review crisis.
@racquelgates I agree. And I find it frightening. To begin with, screening something or assigning a reading doesn’t equal endorsing its world view or politics.
@racquelgates So many thoughts on this, especially in relationship to teaching film, media and literature. So many. Will save most til I’m no longer chair.
I have gotten a few questions from folks about my department's tenure-track search, and I want everyone to have the same information. Get ready for a thread (1/n)
In regard to teaching loads for tenure track and tenured faculty, there is wide variance nationally. 2-2s at R1s and elite SLACs, 3-2s at many SLACs and R2s, 3-3 or 4-4 at regional comprehensives are all common tenure-stream teaching loads. (4/n)
