Really enjoyed the discussion this morning about how we can bring innovation & new technology into the government sector. Thank you @CBRE@bserot. Competency + modernization.

💡I just got back from the CoreNet conference in Anaheim. I learned a perception about Chicago directly from Fortune 50 leaders in Corporate Real Estate that was upsetting to hear:
1. For companies based on the West Coast look to expand, the comparison isn’t Chicago vs. New York or Miami. If they’ve decided the Midwest makes strategic sense, the real competition is Chicago vs. Atlanta and other business-friendly midwestern markets.
2. Corporate real estate leaders consistently point to examples like Georgia’s tax structure and pro-business regulatory environments as making it significantly easier to open offices and scale teams there.
3. It’s not that Chicago lacks talent, world-class universities, a global airport, or affordability advantages. That's never been the issue...The issue is the perception that Chicago’s business climate is less predictable and less growth-oriented. And employers are actively looking elsewhere.
This was said directly by Fortune 50 decision-makers. And it should bother us. They're looking at Chicago and deciding to go elsewhere.
CoreNet hosts its conference in Chicago next year and we have a critical opportunity. Chicago’s civic organizations (@P33Chicago, @WorldBizChicago, @mHUBChicago & others) should be front and center at that conference telling Chicago’s story, convening panels, and actively engaging and attracting the companies that shape corporate location strategies.
If our civic leadership isn’t consistently attracting the world’s most innovative companies, then we’re missing the moment. We need a stronger, coordinated effort to reshape how corporate leaders perceive Chicago as a destination for growth.
Chicago needs to be better or else these companies will continue to grow elsewhere & I'm seeing it play it out real time.

This is going to make the Chicago haters really lose their marbles.
Class A Rents in Chicago rose nearly 2% despite a flood of new supply hitting the market. And next year the pipeline is virtually empty, so expect rent growth to remain strong.
“It just indicates that there’s still really strong demand for rental product downtown”
“The Big Ten kids are coming back to Chicago”
🚨 BREAKING:
After a decade of firing rockets on San Diego, the Mexican army infiltrated the US by land, sea and air, killing 50,000 Americans and capturing 8,500 hostages.
The UN urges "restraint" in America's response.
President Obama signs letter along with thousands of academics, celebrities, and activists laying the blame on Spanish and American imperialism.
Canada, Cuba and Guatemala also declare war on US and begin firing rockets on Minnesota, Florida and Texas.
Protests around the world erupt calling for the murder of English-speakers wherever they may be found.
🤔 Now ask yourself why this scenario is different.

Just updated the @LoftyVentures founder/company stats, so thought I'd share the details...
If this shows anything at all, it clearly demonstrates that we (both angels & VCs) can all be doing a much better job supporting diversity within the startup community but it's a start
In March 2023 I sent out a series of 9 polls for the angel investing community and it generated some interesting results

It’s time to admit that Remote Work doesn’t work. WFH Friday is a 4 day work week. Full WFH is a 2 day work week. Every interaction has to be scheduled, which means a lot of information-sharing doesn’t happen. Remote is a great lifestyle, not a way to build a great company.
I'm thrilled to announce my promotion to Senior Vice President at @CBRE. Thank you to my clients, colleagues, partners, family, and friends for your continued support.
I feel blessed to wake up eager to go to work every day, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.
"A recession is here. The sea tides have changed. If you're scared that potentially you're going to be laid off, get back into the office, get to know your manager," says @LaborDiversity. "Proximity bias is a real thing, and managers tend to protect those people that they know."
