There are many ways to approach these questions. But beyond grades, merit, pedagogy, honors, and everything that has been implicated in this discourse, I hope that we donโt lose sight of coming up with answers that center the needs, learning, and wellbeing of students. ๐ป
If the increase in SCLs is due to a shift towards more effective studying & teaching practices, then we need to maximize those benefits for all students. At the same time, we need to track where all our students are - whoโs ahead and whoโs getting left behind.
What are the characteristics of our students - are they qualitatively and quantitatively dis/similar to those we have worked with in the past? What do we hope to instill in our students, in terms of program outcomes and everything beyond? How do we achieve that collectively?
I just read my students' evaluation for my classes last sem - I'm very thankful for your appreciation of what you liked in our class, and excited to work on things that can be improved!
