Thanks @uddupa for identifying something I consider a strength of the IIT system. Unlike many "top" academic environments, IITs allow the space to solve meaningful research problems without being overly preoccupied with "performance indicators" (at least so far) . Thank you IIT

I do think that ability to solve meaningful problems without much care for the "hype/funding/publication trends" was probably a big plus for IITs.

I cannot agree more. I would like to piggyback on Umang's thread to also advertise IIT Delhi (sorry Umang, trust you wouldn't mind 😉) as a place with a young and friendly set of colleagues and a nurturing environment, esp. for PL/Sys/FM folks. Campus life in India is also lit.

@reifyreflect @RanjitJhala @kc_srk @lambdaNik @icfp_conference It is indeed 3-4x worse than what I saw when I tried applying for a visa in April/May this year. At that time, the wait times were around 200 days IIRC. The only reason I could make it to PLDI was because I got an interview waiver and only had to drop my documents

@comex Thanks! To be fair, compiler development is super hard, and I don't really have the heart to blame the compiler developers for de-prioritizing the maintenance of correct debug headers in the face of aggressive optimizations -- they already have a lot on their plates.
