Started building Bitaxes thinking I'd make some extra bucks; I would lie if I say the opposite.
Man, was I damn wrong - it is something way bigger then me.
Getting stuck made me to connect and learn from the community.
Now few of these people they taught me, become people I speak with on daily basis and yes, I'm here teaching others, giving back the knowledge I got.
Fighting for Bitcoin decentralization against these massive companies hoarding all the mining power and monopolizing the sales of the miners.
Tired of "how much can I save?" questions. If that's all you care about, GitHub's right there, find it out.
Real talk: Open source isn't about cutting corners to save a buck nor to make business. It's about building something together, and in this case making mining accessible for everyone.
What matters more to you - saving a few bucks or keeping Bitcoin truly decentralized?

Hook a Bitaxe up to solar in 10 minutes or less!
Instructions and Amazon links below:
* * * * *
SUPPLIES:
Solar Setup:
1 50W Solar Panel 12V ($44)
1 20a 12v/24v Solar Panel controller ($12.49)
1 5V 6A 30W Converter ($14)
5ft 10 gauge Solar panel cable ($10)
2 16 gauge whips ($7)
2 grey wire nuts ($5)
Device Setup:
1 Bitaxe Gamma ($155 on @plebsource)
1 MOFI4500-4GXeLTE v2 LTE router ($29 on eBay)
1 SIM card with 2GB/month data plan ($6 on @tellomobile for a 2GB data, zero minute plan)
* * * * *
INSTRUCTIONS:
The reason this takes under 10 minutes is because it’s extremely easy. If you have any experience running electrical, all you’re doing is plugging things in. Here’s a summary:
1. You run power from the solar panel to the controller.
2. The controller runs power separately to the router and Bitaxe.
3. You add a converter between the controller and the Bitaxe to convert the 12V power supply to the 5V it needs.
That’s literally it.
Solar panel->Controller
Controller->Router
Controller->Converter->Bitaxe
It’s really that simple.
CABLES:
-The solar panel cables will plug into the cables on the back of the solar panel. The other ends should be cut and stripped, then ran to the first two slots on the controller. You can use ferrule terminals here if you want to get fancy, but this is optional.
-The converter has its own cables.
-The whips plug into the devices on one end, and have bare wires on the other end. Run one between the router and the controller. Run the other to the Bitaxe, then use wire nuts to attach it to the wires coming from the converter.
That’s it.
Once you have power running, you need to set up the LTE router. You can do this ahead of time with normal power if you want. MOFI has a manual for installing the router on their webpage, so I won’t go into detail here. It took a bit of configuring to get the settings right, but it’s not difficult.
Once that’s done - congratulations: You’re mining with the sun!
REMEMBER:
If you want 24 hour use with the Bitaxe continuing to mine overnight, you will need a deep cycle battery and a larger solar panel. I’ll make another post about how to do this down the road. For now, this is a proof of concept for how to mine during the day, totally off-grid.
Why is this a big deal?
Because it’s a proof of concept. This isn’t limited to mining Bitcoin. If you can run a Bitaxe like this, you can run any DePIN device like this. This makes it possible to travel far off-grid, set up shop for a few hours, and map or otherwise capture previously-uncharted territory for any project you can think of. Today, most DePIN devices are stationary and involve passive monitoring, but this won’t always be the case. Running an off-grid, solar-powered mining device enables you to travel to remote locations and use DePIN devices while you're there. This is, for example, one step on the path to running autonomous drones or robots that move continuously to map or otherwise monitor a broad array of environments. These are the sorts of insane things we can look forward to doing in the future. And I find that very exciting!
This is also a first step towards the long-term goals of Guerilla DePIN: systematically deploying autonomous DePIN devices in extreme environments all over the globe, contributing to a robust infrastructure capable of supplanting today's limited technologies of everyday life.
Thanks for reading and feel free to ask any questions you may have. I'll post the video and links to all supplies on Amazon below.
