Cryptographer, cypherpunk, early BTC supporter. Just when I thought I was out, AI pulled me back in. Currently running startup in fintech prediction markets
@xcanceluser@shaunrein Dude read between the lines, even Chinese media questions the cause of death and won't have some definitive statement like 'cancer', nobody believes that.. https://t.co/FvTEiLTNBy
Chinese economist Gao Shanwen died yesterday from an undisclosed disease at the age of 55, according to multiple sources. Gao stepped down as chief economist of SDIC Securities, formerly Essence Securities, last November after over 18 years in the post.
@shaunrein China's economy is healthier than ever, and its immune system purges naturally those with opposing views to ensure the upwards trajectory continues, it's a feature not a bug, westerners don't understand this.
@kai_xbt Such people (rasmr, not robinhood) are retards... ofc Robinhood built its own chain, why would they give any value to the existing blockchain and crypto community if they can take it all for themselves, lock your funds, kyc you if they want, etc...? And you all bridge anyway.
@kevinsxu China is just shooting themselves in the foot again, like it did banning github years ago... Chinese developers if they have access to Claude Code will definitely prefer it over the Chinese alternatives, and no Western devs are rushing to use Deepseek for coding over CC.
@theo I'm sorry I need to crash out about AI influencers whingeing on things that nobody in the space actually thinks. Can't run frontier models on your laptop? Boohoo, cry some more. Can't run 40 'agents' on Ollama? Stop thinking a prompt is an agent, or get a multi-GPU setup.
@0xSero We don't need to take this seriously, his concerns are not serious and merely ragebait for AI people... nobody thinks running local AI models is somehow equivalent to a frontier model, but local LLMs are perfectly capable for running most tasks privately including limited agents
@ShangguanJiewen This will be amazing to see one day but China needs to make sure software and hardware that puts peoples lives at risk is made to a higher, international standard, lest we get another Wenzhou train disaster.
@chooserich Can't tell if this is parody or real, but why is everyone so pessimistic about mstr or strc, they market turns around, bitcoin goes up, they will go up too, no? At the moment you're either losing on your spot bags or losing on the stocks (and tech stocks and gold)..
@lookonchain More of this... as much as I hate to see price go down, I'm in spot for a decade now and honestly want to see all the leverage flushed from the system. People using perps are retards.
@macke_eth@VitalikButerin I am both shamed and honored by his clapback, but if you are that deep in Ethereum and don't know who Aya is or her effect on the ecosystem, you're just a blind follower. I've built on Ethereum since 2016 but had to give up on it after DevCon SEA; it has become a rudderless ship.
@Prometheus_The1@VitalikButerin Protocol upgrades were good, and seeding the ecosystem with grants was helpful, but EF took credible neutrality too far, to the point that others would attack Ethereum constantly and nobody fought back, and EF was co-opted by WEF-style liberal thinking without a cypherpunk basis.
@x_elon_x_musk_x@VitalikButerin@AyaMiyagotchi Ofc I agree that Aya has made an impact over the years, but EF requires a complete transition to new leadership, otherwise the ecosystem is going to wilt on the vine. Most of us have seen the unanswered attacks on Ethereum the last six years and now with AI, somebody must lead.
@WayofLono@0xKrypston@VitalikButerin Anyway, I hope that this new structure improves things, and Ethlabs is a step towards regaining mindshare, but Aya's leadership over the last five years has been a drag on people who actually wanted to do things.
@WayofLono@0xKrypston@VitalikButerin Having been in Ethereum a decade now, I can say it is in the worst place I've ever seen it short of the pre/post-DAO hack. Eth the protocol is ok, but if you read Cypherpunk Manifesto you might see where EF is severely lacking, and that it's mostly due to failed leadership.
@Bookof_Eth@VitalikButerin@ethLINKbtc Yeah I get that, she's made contributions to the emotional, spiritual, and metaphysical vision of what Ethereum is. But in the end, it must be stronger than that, it's a project the world seeks to destroy. We need a Princess Mononoke, not a Chihiro...a San, not a Sen, if you will
@VitalikButerin I've read all her policy pieces, read the books written about Ethereum's inner circle, and met her a dozen times at devcon-type events, but you're right, I cannot know her more personally. I just know to me she is not the leader Ethereum needs. This race was Ethereum's to lose.
