Just had a call from a NI haulier who opeartes to/from the Continent.
They applied for 35 ECMT permits, told they will get 2.
You don't need me to explain the consequences of this.
Note: if it wasn't clear, I'm not being sarcastic about the EU in the first tweet in this thread. They are not OBLIGED to do anything to help us. Brexit is something we're inflicting on ourselves, pure and simple, end of. So anything they put in place to mitigate is most welcome!
Important take-aways:
1) this is something the EU are offering unilaterally
2) EU member states still have to agree to it
3) It only pushes cliff edge away marginally when it comes to the CT. Future negotiations will have to be concluded within 3 months.

No deal plans for the Channel Tunnel will allow trains to keep using it for 3 months under a proposed new EU law. This is another of the many unilateral measures the EU are very kindly putting forward to stop the UK going Mad Max on day 1 of Brexit.

This from the Freight Transport Association here in NI. The Brexit debate is dominated by considerations of the ‘political cost’ for politicians and parties. There is a human cost - to jobs, families and people’s lives. Our leaders need to take note & act https://t.co/jwLnet7Yk4
I think a real fifth columnist would meet the Russian Ambassador, get a job on RT, allow his backers to talk about Gold and Diamond deals with the Russian Ambassador as he launched his Leave EU campaign, illegally funded by foreign dark money and boosted by Putin’s troll farms
