Just like banks can lend more than they hold, exchanges could sell more paper Bitcoin than they actually have and still keep the balance sheet in check.

@PoorIcon I don't think it's important since the amount of stablecoins hasn't changed that much in the last couple of days.
If stablecoins were minted, it could matter.
