Just over a year after a devastating fire left some community members fearing the worst, St. Edmund Church in Breezy Point has been restored and rededicated in the @BrooklynDiocese.

The rare liturgy with @bishopofbklyn included the blessing of the church walls, the anointing of the altar with sacred chrism, and the return of parishioners, @Bill_MillerST reports.

I was there last Holy Saturday after St. Edmund went on fire, I saw Fr. Gelfant and his team standing there in shock. If you’d told me 13 months later, the church would be rededicated by Bishop Brennan I would have said no way. But that’s what happened on Friday. @BTParishNY

It is 10 months since St Edmund Church caught fire. Great strides are being made to rebuild the church…however we cannot get @PSEGLI to turn on our electric. They do not even respond to our requests for 2 weeks now!

Father Mike Schmitz gave a powerful keynote at SEEK25 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He discussed the Shroud of Turin and what scientists and researchers have found regarding everything Jesus endured during his Passion and Crucifixion. Father Mike reminded the faithful that when we sin, we should look at the cross to be reminded of the pain and suffering Jesus endured for the forgiveness of our sins.
