While the "separate but equal" defense sounds perfectly reasonable on paper, anyone who closely follows the music industry knows that sub-categories are routinely used as containment zones for diverse artists. The Grammys have a long, documented history of using genre and regional brackets to keep non-Western, non-white, and non-English-speaking acts away from the Big Four main stages.

The Structural Flaws in the CEO's Argument
The Vote-Splitting Reality: Mason claims genre categories do not exclude artists from the General Field (Album, Record, and Song of the Year). However, in practice, the 15,000 Grammy voters use these niche categories as a convenient box to check. Once an artist is tucked safely away in a regional or genre slot, voters rarely feel compelled to reward them in the top-tier categories.

The "Urban" Parallel: We have seen this exact playbook before. For years, Black artists were systematically funneled into the "Urban Contemporary" or R&B categories while being locked out of Album of the Year. The Academy renamed the category after intense backlash, but the structural habit of keeping diverse, chart-topping music out of the main spotlight remains identical.

Clout Chasing vs. Artistic Respect: The Academy's sadness over BTS’s withdrawal is deeply financial. The Grammys desperately need the massive social media impressions, live viewership, and cultural relevance that global acts bring to a dying linear television broadcast. They want the traffic, but they refuse to evolve their voting pool to genuinely evaluate global music on equal footing.

The Language and Geography Barrier: Music is a universal medium. By drawing a geographic boundary around pop music coming out of Asia, the Academy is fundamentally stating that Western pop is the "default" and everything else is a foreign anomaly requiring a special, segregated spotlight.

BTS's decision to withhold their submissions is a monumental power move. They are exposing the fact that the industry's most prestigious institution relies on outdated, Western-centric biases, proving that true global impact no longer requires a stamp of approval from a stagnant committee.

내가 보려고 노멀 공식 영상 나란히 붙여봤는데 진심 너무 좋아서 같이 보려고 공유함. 요즘 NORMAL 을 거의 뇌에 심으면서 LAMRON 에 대해서 깊생을 해봤음.

영상보면 오피셜이나 가사버전은 LAMRON 순서로, 비하인드형 영상은 NORMAL 순서로 글자가 표시됨. 그리고 멤버들 인스타 바이오 LAMRON → NORMAL 으로 바뀜. 노멀 오피셜 컨포 소개글은 LAMRON : The Reel. 노멀 한국어 버전 수록된 613 edition 바이닐에 프리뷰릴도 있고 해서 종합적으로 연관성을 생각해보게 됨.

카메라와 영사기 렌즈는 빛을 한곳으로 모으는 볼록렌즈 원리를 사용하기 때문에, 필름에 기록될 때와 스크린에 투사될 때 이미지가 무조건 뒤집히게 됨. 우리가 극장에서 보는 영화 필름 릴(Reel)을 현상해서 육안으로 들여다보면, 실제 모든 프레임 속 인물과 풍경이 거꾸로(뒤집힌 채) 찍혀 있음.

이걸 LAMRON - NORMAL 컨셉에 대입하면, 소년단이 세상에 보여지는 화려한 모습들은 사실 필름(Reel)과 렌즈를 통해 속에 거꾸로 뒤집혀 저장되는 LAMRON 임(오피셜과 가사 버전 영상에서 동그란 모양의 렌즈를 상징하는 요소가 많이 등장하는데 렌즈를 통해서 기록되는 삶을 의미하는 거 같어요-)

그에 반해 소년단의 진짜 모습은 고독하고, 다소 어두우며, 어쩌면 자유롭지 않을 수 있는데 그게 방탄에게는 NORMAL인 것임. 그래서 비하인드 담은 영상에서는 진짜 모습인 NORMAL 순서로 글자가 나옴. 중요한 게 이 영상 제목은 NORMAL (Korean Ver.) Visualizer “for ARMY”. 팬들을 위해서 진짜 모습을 보여주는 것을 감추지 않겠다는 의미같다고 생각함(사랑해

그리고 여기서 한 번 더 ! 생각해보면, 소년단이 이제부터 본연의 모습의 NORMAL로 살아갈 수 있는 방법도 알 수 있음. 세상이 방탄을 뒤집어 LAMRON으로 기록할지라도, 세상의 문법(필름을 거꾸로 끼우는 관행)을 따르지 않고, 오히려 그 왜곡된 기록인 LAMRON을 똑바로 끼워서 재생하면 됨. 그 올곧음이 본연의 모습 NORMAL 에서도 조화롭게 살 수 있게 할 것이고, 우리는 이 사람들이 만들어내는 음표 위에서 내내 행복할거.
