Today in 1804, Old North's 1st steeple was knocked down by “The Great Gale of Boston.” Two years later, a new steeple was added — it was 15 feet shorter than the original and included a clock.

Our 2nd steeple, pictured here, survived until Hurricane Carol blew it over in 1954.
