This interview is genuinely beautiful. The more I read it, the more I realize that her greatest strength isn't just her talent—it's her mindset.

There is such a rare level of self-awareness in the way she approaches her work, her growth, and even her mistakes. She speaks about leadership as listening, success as growing together, confidence as something you continuously build, and mistakes as opportunities to learn with humility. Every answer feels thoughtful, intentional, and grounded.

What stands out to me is that she never talks about achievement for the sake of achievement. She talks about purpose, responsibility, kindness, respect, and creating something meaningful. Even as her career continues to grow, she remains focused on learning, on understanding the "why" behind her work, and on the impact her actions have on others.

I am just utterly impressed to see someone so young, yet so clear-headed about who they are, what they value, and where they want to go—while still remaining humble enough to know they don't have all the answers.

Yoko’s NEVER FADE demonstrates a remarkable clarity of purpose and artistic direction. More than a university graduation project, the work resembles a profound journey of individuation—a process of encountering, understanding, and ultimately reconciling with one’s authentic self.

When Yoko shared that she often found herself in tears during the creative process, it became evident that this project transcends artistic expression. It serves as a deeply personal act of self-reflection and emotional integration. The opening image, featuring black attire, functions symbolically as an entrance into the unconscious, signaling the beginning of an encounter with the Shadow.

Throughout the film, Yoko employs a rich series of oppositional images: barren trees versus flourishing greenery, darkness versus light, Diana versus Zen, black versus white, eternity versus disappearance, past versus present, tangible status versus emptiness. These contrasts are not merely aesthetic choices; they embody a central Jungian principle: psychological health is not achieved by eliminating inner contradictions, but by holding them in conscious awareness.

Healing does not come from denying vulnerability, suppressing pain, or choosing one side over another. Rather, it emerges through the integration of opposites—the coexistence of light and darkness, strength and fragility, loss and hope—within a more complete and authentic sense of self.

The film’s fragmented visual language and recurring shadow imagery vividly illustrate how trauma sinks into the unconscious. Unprocessed suffering often resurfaces through anxiety, sudden awakenings, defensiveness, anger, or sharp, reactive behaviors. Jung viewed the Shadow not as something evil, but as those aspects of ourselves that have been rejected, hidden, or left unacknowledged. When trauma remains unintegrated, it inevitably seeks expression through unconscious patterns.

The character “Siren” can be interpreted as a representation of the Persona—the social mask individuals construct to gain acceptance and function within society. In maintaining the appearance of being “fine,” one may suppress profound emotional pain, even refusing oneself the freedom to cry. The Persona protects social belonging, yet it can also distance us from our genuine emotional experience.

The turning point occurs when the protagonist begins to accept every aspect of herself without condition. Instead of identifying solely as a victim of past wounds, she chooses to face, understand, and embrace her suffering. Piece by piece, the fragmented psyche begins to reunite. This process reflects Shadow integration and marks a significant stage in individuation.

Rather than fighting against pain, she learns to coexist with it. Through this acceptance, she rediscovers her intrinsic worth and inner strength.

As self-awareness deepens, she becomes increasingly attuned to her own needs and develops healthier interpersonal boundaries. She learns to say no with clarity, resists emotional manipulation, and no longer allows past trauma to prevent her from forming new relationships. She gains the courage to communicate her feelings and needs more authentically. This transformation represents a movement from trauma-based identity toward psychological autonomy and self-possession.

For this reason, NEVER FADE can be viewed not only as a graduation project, but also as a visual exploration of trauma recovery and psychological healing. It portrays not merely suffering, but the possibility of integration, growth, and renewal.

At its core, the film illustrates the ongoing process of integrating opposites within the human psyche. The recurring contrast between barren trees and vibrant greenery is particularly meaningful. The barren tree symbolizes stagnation, repetitive patterns, and the psychological paralysis that often accompanies trauma. The flourishing landscape represents vitality, renewal, and transformation. Rather than opposing each other, both belong to the same cycle of life. Decay creates the conditions for rebirth; wounds become the doorway to healing.

Perhaps the most moving aspect of NEVER FADE is that it does not attempt to erase scars. Instead, it allows them to become part of a larger narrative of growth and self-discovery. In Jungian terms, this is the essence of individuation: not becoming a perfect person, but becoming a whole one.

Lots of stories tell people to be strong. Lots of stories say “move on.”

But Never Fade doesn’t say that.

It acknowledges that some pain never fully leaves. Some scars never fade. Some losses become part of who we are. Yet it still argues that life is worth living, love is worth pursuing, and happiness is still possible.

That’s a much more compassionate message.

And when you watch the documentary, you start to understand why the message feels so authentic. It reflects qualities that seem to exist in Yoko herself: empathy, resilience, and a genuine desire to understand people, their struggles, and their capacity to keep going.

What gives someone staying power in this industry isn’t necessarily beauty, popularity, or even talent alone. Those things can open doors, but they don’t always sustain careers.

But artists who have something meaningful to say, and who can communicate it with clarity, honesty, and heart—those are the ones who leave a lasting impact.

What struck me most from the Never Fade (@NEVERFADE_TATT) documentary wasn’t that Yoko (@Yoko_apasra) made a good short film.

It was realizing how intentional everything was.

The film itself already carries a beautiful message about pain, scars, and moving forward. But the documentary reveals that the message wasn’t accidental. It came from someone who spent months living with the story, crying while writing it, consulting mentors, refining every detail, and then carrying that vision through casting, directing, acting, producing, editing, styling, and everything in between.

The comments from the cast and crew all seem to point to the same thing: Yoko knew exactly what she wanted to say.

Not in an arrogant way. In a way that comes from understanding the heart of the story so deeply that everyone around her could see it.

The line that stayed with me wasn’t even from the film. It was:

“The main theme I want everyone to understand is overcoming pain without telling them to forget it.”

That explains why Never Fade resonated so strongly. It doesn’t offer a fantasy where pain disappears. It acknowledges that some scars remain. Some losses stay with us forever. The goal isn’t forgetting. The goal is continuing to live anyway.

And somehow, that philosophy seems reflected in Yoko herself.

The documentary shows someone willing to be bold enough to ask for help, humble enough to seek advice, determined enough to carry an enormous workload, and passionate enough to bring people together around a shared vision.

By the end, I found myself feeling less impressed by what she accomplished and more impressed by who she is becoming.

Never Fade may have started as a thesis project, but it feels like something much bigger: a glimpse of the storyteller, creator, and leader Yoko is growing into.

And honestly, after watching both the film and the documentary, I don’t think I’ll remember Never Fade simply because it was Yoko’s graduation project.

I’ll remember it because its message landed exactly where it needed to:

Some scars never fade.

But life doesn’t have to stop because of them.

That’s a lesson worth carrying forward. ❤️🥹
