It’s been so cool to be a part of our forest classroom as it’s changed with the seasons over the past four months. Looking back, I’m noticing how much change I can see just by looking at the ground around our @KellyKettle. #ElonEd#forestschool
My view vs her view and the success of boiling water! The past few weeks @maddieeatonn and I have struggled to maintain our fire and boil our @KellyKettle, today was extremely rewarding #ElonEd#EnviroEd
Two classes today. One making dough, cooking bread, and conversations while doing so. One with a teacher led presentation lasting over an hour. I learned and will remember the content from one of the classes #ElonEd
I’m prepping for tomorrow in the forest classroom and keeping the phrase “there’s no bad weather just bad clothing” in mind. It will be 40° and raining!!! #environmentaleducation#forestclassroom
A6: Place Based Education is a concept that cultivates community in classrooms and educational settings. The book, Bringing School to Life: Place-Based Education Across the Curriculum by Sarah K. Anderson is a great resource #ElonEd
A5: By getting to know the students and growing a bond. Educators can create a safe place in the classroom. Educators can incorporate relevant literature to represent all students throughout the year. Educators can bring in guests to help represent students backgrounds #ElonEd
A4: Administration faces the challenge of not having a strong connection with the students and teachers they are working, causing a disconnect and gap in the community. Educators have the challenging exception that they can incorporate all backgrounds into the classroom #ElonEd
A3: Throughout my schooling #EnviroEd at Elon has had the strongest sense of community. Each class we have an opening circle and a closing circle. We have the opportunity to share struggles and emotions with each other in a safe space because of our community #ElonEd
A2: Students share the commonality of attending school, with a variety of home lives and outside activities. By caring for students and their communities it can help role model the interaction between the two #ElonEd
A1: Getting to know each other is an important part in fostering a safe classroom environment for learning and acknowledging everyone’s different backgrounds outside of school #eloned
Thank you @ElonDining for an amazing Farm Table Dinner this evening! Each course was thoughtfully prepared and it was a great way to meet new students and dining staff #elon#farmtable#localfoods
The reality of boiling water with @KellyKettle. We had 20 minutes to complete it and it took 45. It was hard, frustrating, and emotion filled, but we were given time to succeed #eloned
