My fiance and I booked American Airlines flights through Chase Travel in August 2024 for our honeymoon in St Lucia, which was set for June 2025. In October 2024, she was diagnosed with a serious, rare illness. We pushed our wedding back, which obviously pushed our honeymoon back.

We were told that we would be able to get credit for our flights and that we would be able to go on our honeymoon. We were lied to.

I went through countless departments at American, laying out our situation to every single one of them. Not one of them even tried - they all just sent me on to the next department, expressing their sorrow and claiming that the next department would be able to help us out.

“It’s our policy that given you booked the flights in August 2024, the credit expires for flights beyond August 2025. Had you booked through American rather than Chase, we would be able to give you flight credit,” said American.

After we got more clarity on how to best handle situation, we decided to reschedule our wedding for December 2025. @SandalsResorts was very understanding and was able to quickly get our trip moved. However, the same could not be said for @AmericanAir or @ChaseSupport.

Story time: I will never be using @AmericanAir or @Chase @ChaseSupport again and I recommend that you don’t either. If you experience any unexpected life altering event, expect them to suck your money away ruthlessly, inhumanely. 🧵
