This week we said goodbye to @MichaelSolberg, who wrapped up his time as the inaugural Deputy Chief of Staff in the Mayor’s Office.
Michael was thrown right into the deep end; starting in the middle of the night when we got the election results, and then first thing the next morning as we began the transition. From day one, he brought structure, urgency, and a serious work ethic to building a new office from scratch.
Michael wasn’t just helping run the operation. He was a strategic advisor in every sense of the word. He’s sharp, direct, and always thinking two steps ahead. He helped us make decisions faster, communicate more clearly, and stay focused on what matters most: delivering real results for Calgarians.
In a short time, he played a major role in advancing key priorities: ending blanket rezoning and resetting the housing conversation, delivering tax relief through a demanding budget, navigating a serious water main crisis with public safety at the centre, driving work on public safety and accountability, and helping build consensus on a new and diverse Council.
Michael also led by example. First in. Last out. Every day. The kind of teammate you want beside you when the stakes are high and the clock is moving fast.
Michael: thank you for your service, your counsel, and your leadership. You helped set a strong foundation for this Mayor’s Office, and Calgary is better for it.
Wishing you nothing but success back at New West Public Affairs and Shift Media Strategies.
Onwards!
