EDIC Launches Groundbreaking TIER Program to Drive Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Uganda.
The Engineering Development and Innovation Centre (EDIC), under the auspices of the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat-Office of the President (STI-OP), has officially launched the Technology Innovation Enterprise Accelerator (TIER) Programe
today, August 1st 2025, at the EDIC Smart Manufacturing Hub in Rwebiteete, Kiruhura district.
The launch was officiated by Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero Masanza, Minister of
Science, Technology and Innovation, that convened key stakeholders from academia, industry, government, and the innovation ecosystem.
The TIER Programe is a bold national initiative aimed at accelerating Uganda’s journey toward self-reliance in engineering and smart manufacturing. Implemented under EDIC, the programme aims to:
1. Equip youth with hands-on technical skills for employability and innovation
2. Support the commercialization of homegrown innovations
3. Build a national pipeline of capable problem solvers.
4. Strengthen Uganda’s local manufacturing ecosystem through enterprise acceleration.
EDIC showcased a range of student-developed innovations,
highlighting the creativity, resilience, and capability of Uganda’s next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs.
The launch of the TIER Programme marks a critical milestone in EDIC’s mission to transform ideas into tangible solutions, leveraging reverse engineering, local production, and innovation-driven growth.
EDIC is calling on stakeholders from across sectors to join the movement by partnering, investing, and supporting the TIER Programe as it scales its impact nationally and beyond.
