It is with profound sorrow that we bid farewell to Jeanne Gibson, our beloved Rosie the Riveter, has passed away today, July 29, 2026, at the remarkable age of 100. With her passing, we don't simply mourn the loss of a beloved friend, we honor the life of an American hero whose courage, dedication, and unwavering spirit helped shape history, and will continue to inspire generations to come.📷📷
At just 18 years old, Jeanne left her home in Minnesota in the summer of 1944 and answered her nation's call, becoming a welder at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle. With determination and grit, she helped build destroyers that strengthened the Allied war effort during World War II. She later continued her service with the Army Transportation Corps in Juneau, Alaska, embodying the resilience and patriotism of the Greatest Generation.
Yet Jeanne's legacy extended far beyond the war. She earned her Ph.D., dedicated three decades to teaching, earned her private pilot license, and spent the rest of her life proving that courage, determination, and purpose know no age.
In 2024, Jeanne and her fellow Rosies were collectively awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, one of our nation's highest civilian honors, recognizing the extraordinary women whose sacrifices and determination helped secure victory during World War II.
To all of us at Pacific Historic Parks, Jeanne was far more than a Rosie, she was family. She traveled to Hawaiʻi time and again to share her remarkable story with visitors, inspire local students, and ensure that the sacrifices of the Home Front would never be forgotten. Her radiant smile, generous heart, and boundless enthusiasm touched every life she encountered.
She had a special gift for encouraging young girls, reminding them that no dream was too big and no obstacle too great. Through her words and her example, she inspired generations to believe in themselves and pursue lives of courage, service, and purpose.
Jeanne remained a tireless advocate for preserving the legacy of the Rosies, volunteering at Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park on "Rosie Fridays" and ensuring the stories of the women who helped win the war would continue to inspire future generations.
In one of life's poignant moments, just days before her passing, Jeanne was celebrated with a Wall of Honor banner at the park she loved so dearly and recognized during a San Jose Earthquakes halftime ceremony honoring Bay Area heroes. It was a fitting tribute to a woman whose life was defined by selfless service, quiet strength, and extraordinary grace.
Though Jeanne has taken her final flight, her legacy will never fade. It lives on in every story she shared, every young person she inspired, every life she touched, and in the enduring example of courage she leaves behind.
Our hearts are with Jeanne's family, her fellow Rosies, and all who were blessed to know and love her.
Rest in peace, Jeanne Gibson.
Thank you for answering the call when your country needed you most. Thank you for showing generations what courage looks like. We will remember you always

This week in Washington, Tom Emmer supported voter suppression, dismissed the impact of rising prices and wrote a strongly worded letter amplifying racist rhetoric.

But he ignored another issue you need to know about that deserves attention.

The White House did something this week that is mind-boggling in its selfishness and cruelty: it reduced the numbers of military servicemembers killed in the Iran War to reflect its preferred version of when the nation was at war as opposed to in a cease-fire.

Even worse, the Administration is trying to hide the extent of injuries of other servicemembers wounded in the conflict by classifying them as “not seriously injured” - including one with traumatic brain injuries requiring months of hospitalization.

These decisions don’t just evade political consequences; downgrading injuries suffered in combat reduces future benefits available to servicemembers and their families to help recover and adjust to a new normal.

Someone once said that members of the military “write a blank check to the United States of America for an amount up to and including their own life.”

The idea that this President would cash that check and then refuse to honor the nation’s obligations by ignoring or minimizing servicemembers’ sacrifice is unacceptable.

Tom Emmer would rather talk about anything other than the war or our military’s service. As your Member of Congress, I’ll honor their sacrifices and ensure that the nation provides every possible benefit it has promised to them and their families.

They deserve better.

Buckle up: apparently, GOP strategists have decided that they’re not going to be able to sell their own candidates after 18 months of corruption and chaos, so they’re going to attack Democrats in what they’re calling a “hate election.”

It’ll be even worse here in the 6th District, as Tom Emmer has a well-deserved reputation for ugly rhetoric and a fixation on wedge issues that don’t affect the everyday lives of working families.

My response will continue to be: what you see is what you get — and you’ll see lots of me.

Town halls, county fairs, community events, parades … I’ll be out there in person for you to ask your questions and share your concerns. If you don’t like what you see, it’s your vote and your choice; but don’t let some high-priced political consultant in DC make up your mind for you.

The moral alteration in an unthinkable expanse of people who call this place home has been stunning in its velocity and stomach-turning in its depths. The worst part is that we can’t reach them in the ways reasonable human beings can be reached.

Before Fox News, we could meet the people around us on the common ground of our shared faith in Jesus, our respect for the Constitution, the clarity of objective truth, or shared compassion for vulnerable people. Now, they no longer have use or tolerance for such things.

Those of us who’ve lost people we love to this curated pestilence should file a class-action suit against Fox News for thirty years of malpractice and murder: for the relationships they’ve destroyed, the deaths they’ve been complicit in, the betrayal of the public trust, and for purposefully killing the goodness in human beings who will never be who they might have been otherwise.
