Despite all the noise in the program right now, I think CU gets the win on Saturday. K State’s QB situation is pretty dire.

[Derek Young @DerekYoungKSO]

All four Kansas State quarterbacks are banged up. Collin Klein admitted that they have to consider an emergency QB, but it was Joe Jackson and he got dinged up too.

@byrdmnb Here's how it works --- you pay the coach off in installments over the remaining life of the applicable contract. Dorrell's contract ran out December 31, 2024.

CU owes Deion Sanders $34M over three more years. The buyout is about $25.5M.

Add what a Big 12 coach actually costs, where the median is $4.7M, and the net price of a change is smaller than almost anyone assumes.

We ran the numbers:

@byrdmnb Yes - it was paid off in full December 31, 2024

@byrdmnb They're not paying Dorrell now.

@BigSubpoena_ I'm totally fine not including your conjecture in my article.

[BuffsBlog.com @buffsblog_com]

@BigSubpoena_ I see this cited but I'm not convinced. If you have a link that shows how much additional money Deion Sanders has generated for CU in 2026, I'd love to see it. From my POV, applications are down at CU this year, ticket sales are down this year, etc....

[BuffsBlog.com @buffsblog_com]

So put this togther -- the buyout, plus three years of a new coach at what this league actually pays.

That math, and five more things from Saturday:

Everybody says CU can't afford to fire Deion Sanders.

We actually ran the numbers.

The buyout, the remaining salary, and what the next guy would actually cost ....

The answer is a lot smaller than you think (a BuffsBlog 🧵....)

Why it is even being asked:

Karl Dorrell, last 20 games at CU: 5-15, four losses by 30+.
Deion Sanders, last 20 games at CU: 5-15, four losses by 30+.

Sanders' four blowouts are bigger. 46, 35, 34, 33. Three in the last thirteen months.

This 1Q is the best quarter CU’s offense has played this year.

Colorado beat North Texas 67-64 in its exhibition opener while taking 29 fewer shots than the Mean Green.

Freshman Alex Dickeson led the Buffs with 15. Another Aussie freshman, Goc Malual, also started.

CU held Utah to 27 and ended an 11-game streak of 30-point games. The defense is good.

The Buffs also have 55 penalties for 506 yards in six games, among the three most penalized teams in the country.

Five things I think we learned from Utah:

There was, finally, a pulse.

CU trailed 13-0, scored 17 straight on the No. 11 team in the country, took the lead, and lost 27-24 when a 55-yard try to tie it got wiped out by replay.
