Day 280 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Wrestled very well today. I have made significant improvements having a consistent training setup. I did not have that before the US Open. Averaging 174.4 this week. Weight class is 172. I am going to try to get up to 179/180 the diet back down to 175 and will just cut the last 3 pounds. I feel like most people would look at this and think it’s healthy. Kind of. It’s also 1,500 calories and more than my daily fat goal by itself. So this is like 50% of what I’m eating today. Going to end up way under on carbs and pretty under on fiber. Ton of sodium. I wrestled for an hour today and spent a half an hour in the hot tub. Relatively high activity level, sweat a ton, trying to gain some weight. I wouldn’t consider this generally healthy for a regular person, though. I think some people trying to lose weight would eat a meal like this thinking they were doing the right thing - steak and a salad and vegetables - but if you don’t weigh and log stuff you can subconsciously go off the rails. I was eating 2,100 calories a day to lose a pound a week. This would have been close to an entire day’s worth of food.
Day 279 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Felt fine today. Not amazing but not terrible. Just kind of another day. I was a little tired. Think that hot tub is zapping electrolytes. Was sweating a ton. Need more salt.
Day 278 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Rest day today. Relaxing, staked these last three trees. Going to put a path up here. I am wrestling Monday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. Will lift Friday and Saturday. Tried drinking coffee before practice last night and wrestled better but slept poorly. Maybe shouldn’t drink coffee at 6pm. Face is all banged up. Doing a better job leading with my head and keeping my hands down. It’s been about 5 weeks from the US Open. I am much better. I can’t see that I’m getting better week to week, but I can if I zoom out.
Day 277 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Ben out here wrestling after getting a lung transplant what kind of chicken would I be to complain about being tired.
Day 276 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Today was a rest day. Finally got these drip lines installed in this fruit tree orchard I am building. Very difficult. Many trips to Home Depot. Got too hungry on one of those trips and stopped at Panda Express, which the internet had convinced me is a healthy option for grabbing something quick to eat. Kinda gross to be honest.
Day 275 of training for Veterans Worlds with @BuFuApp: Lower body lift this morning then a ton of work in the garden. Some flowers are starting to bloom. Planted some new perennials. Did not want to lift. Not sure I ever do. I didn’t do any lower body lifting for like 6 weeks before the US Open coming off that calf tear. Starting to get to a point where I’m not that sore, which is important because I had been getting so sore that it would carry into wrestling days and would impact practice. I don’t do any squatting, only single leg stuff. I can feel my legs are getting stronger as it relates to wrestling.
Day 274 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: It can be hard to feel day to day improvements. That can be frustrating. I felt better wrestling today than I did yesterday. I’m not sure there are many things more difficult than what I am trying to do. Have to remind myself that. Keeps everything in perspective.
Day 272 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Missed a day of wrestling this week so added an extra lift. Bonus of having a gym at home is you can lift in the dark with a space heater on. Hate working out anywhere below 70 degrees. Getting way stronger. Not a fitness competition, though.
Day 270 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Nobody wrestling today so did a little cardio, lifted, did more yard work. Weighing about 173/174. Trying to get up to 180 but the right way. Might not hit it. That’s fine. Get as close as I can. I was too small at the US Open.
Day 269 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Sowing this field. I hear this is how they get so strong in Pennsylvania. Bushels of hay, shit like that. I am wiped. What do I have a weight room for?
Day 268 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Rest day today. 10 mins on the airdyne, core, grip, some work in the yard lugging these bags of mulch in a stupid way that got a little more grip work in. Today is my wife’s birthday. She is the hero here. This requires an insane commitment, from losing the weight to get down to 78 and training like a psycho. Not easy. I will win a medal.
Day 266 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Today it felt like it is all finally starting to come together. 9 months in. Felt great, wrestling well. Have a little faith.
Day 265 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Felt really good on the mat today. I had been doing a heavy lifting day on Monday and wrestling Wednesday and Thursday. Those heavy lunges had been making my legs really sore for days so I’d go into wrestling days noticeably sore. This week I added an extra wrestling day on Monday, a lighter lift on Tuesday and felt much better wrestling today. I’ll do that heavy lift day on Friday and take the weekend to recover. Testing out the new ScrapLife samples. They are insane. Best shoe I’ve ever worn.
Day 264 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Lift tonight. My feed is full of people talking about “peptides” and I’ve had a couple people reach out asking what type of supplements I take so here is my stack.
Day 263 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Was the right thing to do to go to this HS practice. I’m never going through legit full practices with drilling and live. That was very hard. Like headache and I might puke hard. It was good being able to actually work anything and get to some stuff. Just doing technique with people who can smash me doesn’t give me the same kind of feel. It’s different to take someone down who is trying to actually stop you. Anyone else’s trunk look like this?
Day 262 of training for Veteran’s Worlds with @BuFuApp: Back to Colorado. Practice tomorrow night. Going to a literal HS club practice. Awkward but whatever it takes. Drilling one on one and working on technique stuff is obviously helpful but not a real practice. Almost all of my mat time is with Deron, who would obviously dog walk me if he tried. It’s not the same when literally every takedown you ever get someone is letting you. Hopefully this helps get more of a live look.
The point of @BuFuApp is to provide wrestlers with more flexibility to train. There are 99 gyms across the country open for everyone. There are over 3,000 training partners on there. I am in California and there is someone literally a mile away. There are also 300+ coaches.
