Verre et Vitesse’ Historic Lalique Car Mascot Exhibition The Bugatti Trust is proud to welcome a special guest exhibition devoted to the artistry of René Lalique’s automotive mascots as often seen adorning the hoods of Bugattis and other prestigious marques of the early 20thcentury. Bugatti and Lalique represent the pinnacle of early 20th century artistry though expressed through very different media and the new Lalique display will be complemented by the Bugatti Trust’s exhibits dedicated to the oeuvres of Ettore, Rembrandt, Jean and Carlo Bugatti. Opening on April 2nd, ‘Verre et Vitesse’ will be on display to the visiting public until May 29th with full admission details available on https://t.co/dlsze9oBQS
Expertly curated by specialist John Nemeth, the new exhibition will present a privately owned collection of 46 exquisite historic Lalique mascots including the magnificent ‘Renard’ or Fox mascot dated 1931 and the rare ‘Hibou’ or Owl from the same year. The breathtaking ‘Petite Libellule’ or small dragonfly from c. 1928 and the ‘Tête de Paon’ or peacock head in blue glass from the same period to name a few more of the rarely seen pieces will sit alongside the iconic ‘Victoire’ or Spirit of the Wind and the more familiar cockerels from the late 20s and of course the famous ‘Vitesse’ or Speed glass mascot from ca. 1929. John Nemeth, who curated the collection on behalf of the owner, said “this is a unique opportunity to view an example of not only every model of car mascot or hood ornament produced by René Lalique in the 1920s and 30s but every variant of every model. Assembling and exhibiting a collection of R. Lalique car mascots on this scale has not been done before in the UK and likely not in the world. The heart of this collection (some 30 models) was previously shown at The Musée Lalique in Alsace as part of their ‘Lalique and the Art of Travel’ exhibition in 2016. This exhibition at The Bugatti Trusts adds a further 16 model types to fully showcase the catalogued works of René Lalique.” For more information regarding the works and car mascot designs of René Lalique please visit https://t.co/jMt1EDkKoc #lalique #laliquecarmascot @lalique
The Bugatti Trust Welcomes
Caroline Bugatti, Viola Procovio and Clive Godsell as New Trustees
New appointments bring heritage, creative perspective and strategic experience to support the Trust’s future
Prescott, Gloucestershire, June 19th , 2026. The Bugatti Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of three new Trustees: Caroline Bugatti, Viola Procovio and Clive Godsell. These appointments mark an important step in the continued development of the Trust and reflect its commitment to preserving the Bugatti family legacy while strengthening its public, archival, educational and cultural mission for the years ahead.
Caroline Bugatti joins the Board with a uniquely personal connection to one of the great names in engineering and design history. Granddaughter of Ettore Bugatti she has extensive experience in motorsport operations, including service as operations director at the Anneau du Rhin circuit in Alsace. ‘Cars are part of my daily life, in my work at the racetrack, and in my blood. I have the privilege and, above all, the pleasure of driving a piece of history in my hands, and what could be more rewarding than seeing the smiles of the people you meet or take for rides ? It is important to share this heritage, which I gladly do, as do the Trust and other enthusiasts around the world. I have a very fond memory of a visit to the Trust with our two daughters. That day, a group of children were gathered for a tour at the end of which they were given paper and pencils to draw their own Bugatti. It is they who will continue this history tomorrow.’
Viola Procovio brings an international outlook and a valuable creative dimension to the Board. Her love of Bugatti is a family inheritance. The passion was passed down by her father, founder of the Italian Bugatti Club, and as a second-generation Bugatti owner she has grown up immersed in the marque's history and community. As a Trustee, she brings her international connections within the Bugatti world and her years of experience fundraising for local charities. She sees her role as helping the Trust grow as a living repository of Bugatti knowledge — encouraging owners everywhere to share the histories, documents and details of their cars so that this collective record of the cars made at Molsheim is safeguarded for future generations.
Clive Godsell’s interest in Bugatti has been longstanding and was shaped from an early age by his grandfather, who encouraged a hands-on approach and curiosity for engineering and design. Studying electronics and computing at university gave him a strong technical foundation and a deeper understanding of engineering principles. Combined with his experience in commerce and a substantialinterest in history - both in the people behind it and the technical developments that shaped it - he enjoys using his skills and knowledge to help educate others and share these interests more widely.
Allan Rippon, Chairman of The Bugatti Trust, said: “The appointments of Caroline Bugatti, Viola Procovio and Clive Godsell are vital to The Bugatti Trust and its future direction. No organisation can stand still or rely on the same trusted individuals for ever and these appointments will bring a fresh eye and additional expertise to the oversight of the affairs of the Trust. I am grateful to each of them for agreeing to serve as Trustees. Each is deeply rooted in the Bugatti community and I am sure that they will, in their turn, help develop The Trust to meet the significant opportunities and challenges in the decades to come.”

A huge thank you to everyone who visited The Bugatti Trust on Saturday for our Verre et Vitesse – Glass and Speed Lalique exhibition. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces alongside new visitors discovering the remarkable connection between two of history’s most iconic names for the very first time. Thank you to the Bugatti owners who made our lawn look so splendid 😍
This exhibition would simply not exist without Lalique collection curator John Nemeth, whose depth of knowledge and commitment to sharing it has been extraordinary throughout. Immense thanks go to Dominic Taylor Lane, Association of Heritage Engineers, who had the foresight and vision to introduce John to us — and in doing so, brought together the worlds of historic Bugatti and Lalique in a way that continues to captivate everyone who walks through our doors. We are very grateful!
The exhibition runs until the end of May. We are open Monday to Friday during regular opening hours, and we are delighted to announce two special weekend openings: Saturday 23 May and Sunday 24 May, 10am–4pm. Happy International Women’s Day 2026! To mark the day we highlight some of the remarkable women who shaped Bugatti’s prewar history.
In the 1920s and 1930s, drivers such as Hellé Nice, Elizabeth Junek, Anne-Cécile Rose Itier, Countess Margot von Einsiedel and Emma Munz competed in Bugatti Grand Prix cars, challenging expectations of who belonged in the paddock and at the wheel. Their achievements demonstrated that precision, endurance, and race craft were not defined by gender but by talent and determination.
Today, The Bugatti Trust Museum and Study Centre preserves the photographs, drawings, sketches and archives that connect us to these stories, including materials linked to the development of the various types and the all-important drivers, engineers and designers.
Material in our archives documents that Hellé Nice claimed first place in the 1929 Grand Prix Féminin, the first all-women Grand Prix. Her incredible speeds of 198kph in her Omega-Six earned her the name “the fastest woman in the world”. This victory prompted Ettore Bugatti to invite Hellé Nice to drive his cars in future Grand Prix races. She later became known as “the Bugatti Queen”.
By studying this history and through our educational outreach work and sponsorship, we aim to inspire new generations of engineers, designers, historians, and enthusiasts to see motorsport and automotive as well as design innovation as spaces open to everyone.
The IWD 2026 Give To Gain Campaign encourages a mindset of generosity and collaboration.

We were thrilled to welcome students from Coventry University’s internationally renown Automotive and Transport Design course to The Bugatti Trust. Their visit launched an exciting design challenge — to reimagine Ettore Bugatti’s ultimate city car for the future: small, light, elegant, and efficient.
Drawing inspiration from the remarkable Bugatti Type 68 and guided by our team, the students explored Bugatti’s heritage of innovation and craftsmanship while considering today’s themes of sustainability and modern urban mobility.
A huge thank you to Aamer Mahmud, Course Director ATD, Alan Barrett, Co-course Director MA ATD, and their talented students for their enthusiasm, creativity, and thoughtful discussions. We can’t wait to see their interpretations of the modern Type 68 later this year.
