look, I'm no theologist, but I have a strong sense of fairness and a lot of what god does seems unfair

@Papist_X @catholicpat with regards to god doing the stuff to job, he may not have done it himself, I misremembered that, but he let satan do it and I still think that's cruel and wrong of a being that claims to be all loving

I dislike things that aren't fair/hurt innocent ppl, that's all

@Papist_X @catholicpat it's been a while since I've read it tbh, I'm not religious and wasn't raised religious so my memory isn't gonna be perfect. iirc, the gist of it was god saying something like "where were you when I made the earth?" basically saying god was above him and had divine wisdom n stuff

now if the story is allegorical, that'd make way more sense even if I disagree. but the version I read treated it as literal

@skyfire1984 @catholicpat if god is truly all knowing and all powerful, every human being was created knowing who they would be and what they would do (which calls into the question of free will anyway), so god made every dictator, every rapist and murderer, knowing what they would become

@catholicpat and from that point I extrapolated to all the suffering in the world, really. if god is truly all powerful and all loving, then he should act like it. because the world I'm looking doesn't reflect that idea

but specifically it was the story of Job that made me angry. an innocent, good man was tormented for no good reason. that's not what a loving deity would do. at that point it wasn't about if god existed or not, it was about if I could worship someone like that
