Was a physicalist, then one day wasn't a physicalist. Now I think nothing is *really* physical. It's just experiences all the way down.
Could be wrong though.
@jetpen@TOEwithCurt Super interesting thoughts!
I have no idea if this is true, or significantly likely to be true, but it kinda sorta makes sense to me! 👍🙂
@ColinMangan_TGC@tomwelcomeclark@Disagreeable_I@shamthebot@Philip_Goff@seanmcarroll Isn’t the zombie argument simply pointing out that brain/body-like arrangement of particles do not logically entail conscious experience?
No one has even come close to demonstrating that it does. I’ve never heard an argument that even *begins* to demonstrate that it does. IMHO.
@ian_wardell@morallawwithin Exactly.
This is why illusionists/eliminativists exist.
Actually, I give these illu/elim folks a bit of credit for realizing that this is the only “tenable” (haha) position if one wants to consider themselves materialists/physicalists.
@ancoul @morallawwithin What, in purely physical(ist) terms, is the experienced redness of red, or literally any other conscious experience?
What arrangement/behavior of matter literally *just is* the experience of pain?
Good luck with that.
In sum, societal parasites who get rich off of these companies, who could still be millionaires, even if they were to forgo 90% of their income, can go fuck themselves.
I’ll never pay, until the corporate thugs come into my dwelling and scrape the profits from my cold dead body.
I say, any for-profit ambulance service (regardless of whether they’re considered non-profit on paper, regardless of the various executives of the company paying themselves several million per year), they can go f**k themselves.
It’s always “worked” for me before. Why start now?
@PhilosophyBayou @No5mallf3at@PAHoyeck I’m incredibly familiar with this term, but at the moment, I have no idea what it actually means.
Please help! 🙏
@No5mallf3at @PhilosophyBayou @PAHoyeck What if you’re committing a fallacy RIGHT NOW?!! And you don’t even know it?!!
What if I’m committing a fallacy just by discussing fallacies?!! 😱
@PAHoyeck They openly acknowledge that they believe phenomenal consciousness doesn’t exist, but they deny that they deny consciousness itself.
But WTF is non-phenomenal consciousness even supposed to be?
Seems completely and utterly incoherent…IMHO.
@dwarkesh_sp Not to be pedantic, but should the internet be considered a “place”? 🤔
I actually think this is a really interesting question, but I guess it’s probably more about language than ontology/metaphysics—like many other philosophical issues, haha.
