Kenya has flagged off the first consignment of apple mangoes to the United Kingdom marking a major milestone in the country’s fresh produce exports.
Speaking on behalf of the Principal Secretary for Trade Regina Ombam during the flag off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport,the CEO,KEPROBA Floice Mukabana reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting apple mango farmers in accessing global markets, aligning with Kenya’s strategy to promote value addition, enhance competitiveness and expand opportunities for local farmers.
Mukabana said the consignment,a pilot project,will pave the way for sustained exports and emphasized the need for collaboration among farmers and stakeholders to standardize the commodity and ensure compliance with international quality and safety standards.
Present also was the Country Director for TradeMark Africa Lilian Mwai who highlighted the significance of opening new markets like the UK, which offers vast opportunities for job creation and increased incomes across the mango value chain.
Kenya Airways Acting Chief Executive Officer Captain George Kamal, assured exporters of the national carrier’s continued support through reliable and efficient air cargo services to international destinations, reinforcing the airline’s role in promoting Kenya’s exports.
This flag-off signals Kenya’s growing footprint in high-value export markets and reflects strong collaboration between government agencies, development partners and the private sector to boost agricultural exports.
