It's a terrible look for the media who took every chance to criticize Bouchard and screamed for accountability when they also knew that coaches had lost faith in Nurse
I'll say this about Spec's piece on Nurse, it's an odd approach for the Oilers to take. Clearly, this was written on a source Spec trusts and knows. Safe to say it's someone within the organization or in the know. Embarrassing the player probably isn't the best approach to take.
If the Oilers accomplish nothing more than just moving on from Nurse as a pure cap dump, that's the spot that should lead to a Dorofeyev offersheet. The mid-range contract is death. And Car has proven you can find, via math, guys for your bottom six who at worst can saw off
"When he realizes that a trade is imminent, however, two sources have told Sportsnet that the Oilers’ preference would be to move Nurse before the start of next season"
#LetsGoOilers Darnell Nurse last 5 seasons: $6.4m, $6.6m, $4m, $4,4m, $2.2m Power Score
Given it, rebuilding teams look like the most possible customers. They would acquire his deal in addition to picks/prospects (Howard?). But not sure he is willing to waive the NMC for such an option
Nurse was not Bowman's idea The hope was he would make sure he also wasn't his problem. Nurse has been one of the league's worst PKers. Didn't matter. Terrible in the playoffs. Didn't matter. Poor awareness and puck reads. Didn't matter. Now it matters and Nurse is floored
There's been a culture of entitlement with Nurse that's unlike anything I have seen and I go back to the days of being in the stands and listening to people grumble about Paul Coffey. That's a long time. Nurse has never been held accountable for anything with his play
Friedman says on 32 Thoughts says that Nurse had an emotional season-ending interview with the team in '25.
Adds that Nurse was very upset that it got out that the Oilers asked him to waive his NMC, which he didn't.
It's hard to see Det not taking a massive loss in the Larkin trade. What the Wild will offer will be a big step backwards. I think he winds up in Vegas with Hertl being the main roster piece and that won't be good for Detroit, either
Parts, if not all, of the Edm media knew how coaches felt about Nurse up to the point of nearly benching him in the Finals. And yet they still gave Bouchard a much, much tougher time. Were they instructed not to criticize Nurse?
Todd McClelland was always the prime candidate for quotes that killed players. Eberle comes to mind. Is Knoblauch the new former head coach source? Is he the guy who roasted Nurse?
Lots of options here. Orlov on an expiring contract? Nurse for a pick? Cassidy always liked to play all three of his pairs and so I could see a Walman-Ferraro-Ekholm lefty stack. The problem is Edmonton's contract work has not been good
At first blush can’t see Nurse waving no trade this season, possibly 97’s last, but this is last year he has full control to tell Edm where he would go. Oil can use cap relief and SJ needs D and has lots cap space but Edm would need to sign F/A left D like, say, SJ Ferraro
"If they were going to move somebody that was going to open up space... [Nurse's] nine million dollars would certainly be one of the ones you would look at."
@LouDeBrusk on reports Darnell Nurse could be traded this off season with @Bob_Stauffer on Oilers Now.

Darnell Nurse and the Edmonton Oilers are headed for a breakup. The only question seems to be when.
@SportsnetSpec has the details. https://t.co/klxnvYqXAr
@Hockyluv21@780JR He will probably pay Tulsky as much as he has to. That is unless he sells the team which i suspect he will within a couple of years of winning a Cup. He just moves on from things and if he loses key front office staff, the results won't remain the same
For all of the money that Katz has and can spend, he would be wise to pay whatever it takes to lift Tulsky from Carolina the first chance he gets. The Oilers always needed a new school vision but they will be back to the lottery with the current management once the stars age out
The Hurricanes are definitely Rod Brind'Amour's team. But the roster has Eric Tulsky's fingerprints all over it. From small deals to big swings, the unlikely GM has made all the right moves as Carolina plays for first Stanley Cup since 2006. https://t.co/VoOnVFD8X1
That show featured an awful lot of opinions that had not been checked against shooting percentages and save pcts. I was late to analytics but I sat back and read. McMann's PDO in Seattle is a warning. That's basic stuff
On @GotYerBackPod , the guys discussed Bobby McMann as a potential FA option for the Oilers. @TSNRyanRishaug was correct in his assessment on the likely AAV for him. McMann turned down a 2-3 year extension in Toronto for $3.8M AAV, prior to being traded at the deadline. @Cszab
One of the good things about being retired is being able to watch as much hockey as I want. Maybe Cossa just was mentally beaten down by his place on the depth chart but his last dozen starts, for an excellent GR team, were awful. He is not worth Howard. Not close
