There have been some recent posts discussing issues with fraud in payments.
Today we're releasing a new feature to give payers confidence that they're sending money to the right place and aren't being defrauded.
Platforms like Buildplus can prevent error and fraud.
We can also provide "one time use" account numbers that can be given to different vendors for improved security and reconciliation (you know who's paying to their assigned account number)
Many such cases - its somewhat complex but maybe this info just isn't readily available? ACH still feels relatively new esp for legacy construction cos
People will guard their banking information with their life and then hand over a check with all their banking information to pretty much anyone without giving it a second thought
Tools like micro-deposit verification or Plaid can also be used by payees & payers to verify account ownership. This all but eliminates the risk of fraud, although some people are wary of providing third party access to their banking info.
Yes - we solve this problem explicitly by making sure owners & developers have visibility into your contractor's project finances and they have the tools they need to segregate funds, actually track customer deposits, and run profitable jobs.
Your regular reminder that your contractor should not be ahead of the work with their billings.
Only pay for work that's been done, and don't become an unwitting financier of their other projects.
(Exception: a deposit on signing is reasonable, provided the amount is reasonable. And it's ok to pay ahead for materials *that are actually ordered* like windows.)
