First of all, I am very sorry, that some people got to know a scammer (@outofsigma) through Build, Show, & Tell.

There were quite a few red flags I saw, but I did not think that he might be a scammer.

There are a few things I hate, two of them:
- if somebody lies
- and steals.

Well, he did both, and I feel very sorry for the victims.

The red flags were the followings:
- he never shown his face (not even at our online meetups)
- NOTHING he claimed could be verified, there was no evidence (except for the webpages HE created)
- he was very, very often bragging with how much money he has (I never seen a successful entrepreneur doing that.)

Many of his actions were extremely strange to me (so I kept a distance from him), but in retrospect - that I know he is a scammer - his actions made total sense.

For example, he left the @buildshowntell discord channel at the very moment when I criticised his behaviour. --- Now, it makes sense, he did not want anyone around him, who did not buy everything he said.

Another example happened right after this: he literally copied Build, Show, & Tell. --- Unfortunately, it comes out, that BST was a great place for him to hunt for his victims, so he replicated the same thing but with an extra: at BST, there were some people, who questioned him, but if he creates his on version, he can hand-pick people who believe everything to him.

I am very sad and very happy at the same time. I am sad, coz he stole from good people and wasted their time, but I am happy that it eventually came to the surface, and I hope that he won't be able to do it anymore.

For his victims, the lesson is obvious: do not trust people who show any sign of the red flags I mentioned earlier.

For me (and Build, Show, & Tell) the lesson is the following:
- Make people turn on their cameras! First of all, it's quite impolite to turn off your camera, coz nobody likes to talk to the wall, but more importantly, we have to make sure somehow that the person we are talking to is the person who they claim to be.
- Make sure that if someone claims something, then it can be verified. I will kick out everyone showing the signs of the red flags I mentioned, and I will make it clear to members why it happened.

We should definitely try to prevent anything like this happening in the future, so please spread the word!

Notification email
- when:
- 24 hours before the event
- 1 hour before the event
- list: eu/apac (only for those who rsvpd 'going' or 'maybe')
- content: short excerpt about the event

Recording available
- when: the afternoon when the recording is available
- list: eu/apac
- content: link to the video + summary

If there is no event in your region, but there is in another, you will receive 1 email that week.

If there is an event in your region, but you did not rsvp 'going' or 'maybe', you will receive 2 emails that week. We assume, that you still might be interested in the recording regardless you attended or not.

If you attend an event, you will receive 4 emails that week.

Besides all of these, there will be occasional newsletters. I believe we will send those with major updates in every few months.

It's a quite long post, so, if you read all of it and comment, I owe you one!

So, I'm working on @buildshowntell's emails related to events. I don't wanna send too many emails, and I want to bring value in those emails. Before launching it, I would appreciate your feedback about:
- what I'm planning to send
- when I'm planning to send it
- and to whom I will send those emails.

If you want to help me to create great emails for Build, Show, & Tell, please repost this post, so others might share their thoughts as well.

If you don't know what Build, Show, & Tell is, let me quickly summarize it for you, so you will be in context:

It is a community of makers, we try to help each other, mostly by giving feedback to each other's products & business. We have online meetups on a regular basis where someone is presenting their product, and others give them a friendly roast. Right now, the events are on pause, because we are working on automating a lot of things, that we used to do manually. (All of these are related to the meetups.)

Since I'm one of the main organizers and I live in the EU, the meetups are in the CET timezone, but we are soon launching a new branch probably in Hong-Kong timezone (evenings), because for many people who are interested, our meetups are happening in the middle of the night for them.

The events are recorded, and members get access to the uncut version of the videos.

Email lists:

We are currently planning to use three email lists:
- Global
- EU
- APAC

When users register, they will be signed up to the Global list, and they will need to choose at least one of the branch-related lists: EU and/or Asia-Pacific. Users can unsubscribe / pause their subscriptions any time.

Event-related emails:

Part of the automation I mentioned are sending emails related to the events. These can be notifications, event announcements, summaries of the events, etc. Here is a list of the emails:

Event announcement
- email list: EU/APAC
- when: the morning after the event is approved
- what: a short summary of the approved event

Event notification
- email list: EU/APAC
- when:
- 48 hours before the event
- 24 hours before the event
- 9 AM on the day of the event
- 1 hour before the event
- what: just a notification of the event

Uncut recording available
- email list: EU/APAC
- when: the next morning
- what: the video + a short summary of the event

Recap video available
- email list: EU/APAC
- when: the next morning
- what: the recap video + a short summary of the event

Upcoming events
- email list: Global
- when: every Monday at 9AM CEST
- what: list of events from both branches

Past events
- email list: Global
- when: the first Tuesday of every month, at 9AM CEST
- what: list of the events from both branches, with short summaries and videos

- Is it too many emails or okay amount?
- What about the timing of the emails?
- And the content?

If you got to this point, then I have tell you that I'm surprised, and I also have to tell you that I appreciate it very, very much. I am very much interested in your thoughts.
