trying to make https://t.co/vam6425WdA turn "we should get coffee sometime" into a thing that actually happens
you pick a cafe + a time and just send the invite
building the invite flow now. worst case you get a coffee, best case you make a friend
added a cafe roulette button for when you genuinely cannot decide
hit it, it picks a verified nyc cafe for you
built it half as a joke, now i use it every time i'm being indecisive about where to work
testing a weird little free coffee loop
you can sponsor a coffee for "the next regular" at a cafe, and some stranger who checks in later gets it on you
no idea if this becomes anything but paying it forward to a random person at your spot is kind of a fun idea
spent some time fixing cafe pins that imported like 500m off
found one in flushing where the route button would've sent you to the wrong block entirely
every nyc cafe says they have wifi
nobody tells you the password is taped under the register or just doesn't work
added a thing where people can drop the actual wifi password for a spot. small but maybe the most nyc feature we've shipped
working on a tool to autonomously bulk send email campaigns & followups through google workspace emails without getting flagged or placed in spam
might be one of the most useful tools in our business if this works how i want it to
google maps will tell you a cafe is “good for working” and then you get there and it has:
1 outlet
tiny tables
weak wifi
no seats
no real way to tell if it’s actually laptop friendly
this is why spotacafe needs to exist
i’m realizing “free coffee” is a way better ad than an actual ad
so for spotacafe i’m testing this:
invite someone
check in at a cafe for 5 min
get $5 to venmo
might be a terrible idea financially
current https://t.co/vam6425oo2 goal:
make it useful enough that before someone texts “where should we meet?” or “where can i work today?” they just open the map
simple idea but i think nyc genuinely needs this
lowkey the hardest part of building a cafe map is that “good cafe” means completely different things to different people
some people want quiet
some people want outlets
some people want good matcha
some people just want to sit and not feel rushed
trying to make spot a cafe account for that
nyc people i need testers for something
made a cafe map where you can find spots by wifi, outlets, quiet, etc.
also testing a $5 venmo referral thing rn
invite someone, check in at a cafe for 5 min, get coffee money
