Also, writing an essay to defend African literature against racist platforms is just writing an essay to show that you are brilliant. There is nothing revolutionary about it. What is revolutionary is organizing among ourselves. Those of us who have been able to create platforms or accumulate power for ourselves have to protect those coming after us.
What do you think your essay is going to accomplish? We all saw the relentless witch-hunt of Jason Arday. We all read the many essays written in support of him. What did they accomplish? You are demanding essays as a means of fighting people who are going to be commissioned by big publications with the means to influence the algorithm.
I need us to really wake up to what is happening around us. Your brilliance cannot save you or anyone else. What can save us is relentless organizing, and this does not mean we have to condone cheaters. Nope. What it means is that we have to protect ourselves when we know that those coming for us are not seeking genuine answers. Rather, they are seeking our complete extinction, and I say this as someone who is working on an essay about all of this.
@_JackPBrown No one is going to unfortunately, it's not popular to stick up for Black writers right now. We’ll find them all at the next all-black square social media post, if we ever get to that sort of reckoning again
@CainePrize You need to start pushing back. The burden of proof is on the accuser. That @TheAtlantic can publish such a serious allegation without being properly challenged is a disgrace, and you're legitimising their behaviour with this statement.
@__mofiyinfoluwa yes, it be this way, to quote @RomeoOriogun 'you cannot outperform racism.' all through my MFA, whenever some of my classmates don't understand my work, they'd zero-in on an aspect, then they let it rip. It was like clockwork. I'd leave the workshop in tears.
Racist messages such as those targeting #tennis player @CocoGauff online are appalling and illustrate that Black female athletes are specifically targeted for vitriol and racial abuse. There is no place in sport for racial or sexist slurs and abuse. Players, coaches, and sports bodies need to stand up for those facing such attacks and fans need to push back against those who sully sport with racism and sexism.
it’s been a few days & I’m displeased with the lack of communication on the @WTA’s part to defend and protect Coco amidst all the racism & abuse she’s faced. not even coming with a statement is pretty awful. I stand with Coco, I hope she knows how much we love and support her. ❤️
Because obviously I’d turn a book announcement into a trailer for fun! 🎬
Not the kids book you were expecting(soon come) but my second book baby is available for pre-order & out November 30th. ‘Different Area Codes’, your next romantic holiday read ✨

"Expats" who have impoverished the UK so much that they can't stand to live here, but somehow will find £72 million to donate to a racist political party?
I hope the UK electorate realises that the kingmakers' money comes at the price of even more poverty
A white institution is punishing a black woman for defending herself against white supremacy & you a black person is saying she deserves it for talking too much???? Oh the chain around your neck is a diamond necklace! Massa loves you!!! Anyway Uju Anya forever!!!
moral purity, perfect victims and other myths. wake up, the "if they go low, we go high" bullshit has never served us.
people don't have to be morally pure to deserve advocacy. they don't have to fit your woke meter for you to speak out against injustice done to them.
no amount of respectability, cowering, docility or professionalism will insulate you from white supremacy. if you like keep jumping to agree with racists and silence other black people. you're doing yourself 👍🏾
